Now concerning spiritual gifts. I want you, brothers and sisters, to know the truth.

You know that when you were still without knowledge of God, you were led away, without thought, to mute idols.

Therefore I want to assure you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God can say, “Jesus is cursed!” and no one can confess, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.

There are different gifts, but one Spirit.

And there are different ministries, but one Lord.

And there are various workings, but it is one God who works all things in all people.

But to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

For to one the Spirit gives the gift of speaking with wisdom, and to another the same Spirit gives the gift of speaking with knowledge.

To one the same Spirit gives faith, and to another He gives the gift of healing.

To one the same Spirit gives power to work miracles, and to another He gives the gift of prophecy, and to another again He gives the gift of distinguishing between different spirits. To one He gives the gift of speaking in tongues, and to another He gives the gift of interpreting tongues.

But all these are worked by the one and the same Spirit, who gives gifts to each one individually, as He wills.

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members, though many, are one body, so also is Christ.

For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all given to drink of one Spirit.

For the body also does not consist of one member, but of many members.

If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” is it therefore not part of the body?

And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” is it therefore not part of the body?

If the whole body were an eye, where would hearing be? If the whole were an ear, where would smelling be?

But God has placed each member in the body, each one separately, as He willed.

If they were all one member, where would the body be?

Indeed there are many members, but only one body.

So the eye cannot say to the hand, “I do not need you.” Nor can the head say to the foot, “I do not need you.”

On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are the ones that are most necessary.

And to the parts of the body that, in our view, are less honorable, we give special honor. And to our unseemly parts, we give special care.

Our seemly parts do not need this. God has arranged our body in such a way that special honor is given to the parts that lack it,

so that there may be no division in the body, but that the different members may care for one another.
26
Therefore if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.
27
You all are the body of Christ, and each of you is a member of it.
28
And God has appointed some in the church: first as apostles, second as prophets, third as teachers. Then those who have gifts for miracles, for healing, for serving, for leading, and for speaking in tongues.

Are they all apostles, or prophets, or teachers? Do they all have gifts for miracles,

or for healing, or for speaking in tongues, or for interpreting tongues?

So strive to obtain the greater gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way.
