Finally, brothers and sisters, we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus: you have heard from us how you ought to live so as to please God. Indeed, you are already doing this, but we ask you to do it more and more earnestly.

You also know what instructions we gave you in the name of the Lord Jesus.

For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you should keep away from sexual immorality,

that each of you should take a wife for himself and live in holiness and honor,

not in the passion of lust, like those who do not know God,

and that in these matters no one should wrong or deceive his brother. For the Lord is the avenger of all these things, as we have already told you and warned you before.

God has called us not for impurity, but for holiness.

Therefore whoever rejects this is not rejecting man, but God, who also gives you his Holy Spirit.

Now concerning brotherly love, there is no need to write to you, for you yourselves have learned to love from God.

And you are doing this toward all the brothers throughout the whole region of Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers and sisters, to do it more and more earnestly.

Make it your aim to live quietly, to attend to your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we commanded you,

so that you may live properly in the sight of outsiders and not depend on them.

Now we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who have died, so that you may not grieve like the others who have no hope.

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, then we also believe that God will gather with him those who have died in Jesus.

This we say to you by the word of the Lord: we who are alive, who remain until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not go before those who have died.

For at the signal, at the voice of the archangel and the trumpet of God, the Lord himself will come down from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first;

after that, we who are alive, who remain, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.
