But concerning the times and the seasons, brothers and sisters, there is no need for it to be written to you,

for you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night.

When they say, “Peace and safety,” then sudden destruction comes upon them, like labor pains upon a pregnant woman, and they will certainly not escape.

But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness, so that that day should overtake you like a thief;

for you are all children of light and children of the day. We are not of the night or of darkness.

Therefore let us not sleep as others do, but let us keep watch and be sober.

For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.

But let us, who belong to the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.

For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through Jesus Christ, our Lord,

who died for us, so that whether we keep watch or sleep, we may live together with Him.

Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as indeed you are doing.

We ask you, brothers and sisters, to respect those who labor among you, who lead you in the Lord and admonish you;

and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live in peace with one another always.

We also urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle, comfort the fainthearted, support the weak, be patient with all.

See to it that no one repays evil for evil, but always seek what is good, both for one another and for all people.
