1
Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-five years. His mother’s name was Hephzibah.

He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to the detestable practices of the nations whom the LORD had driven out before the people of Israel.
3
He rebuilt the high places that Hezekiah his father had destroyed; he built altars for Baal, made an Asherah pole, as Ahab king of Israel had done, and bowed down to all the host of heaven and served them.

He built altars in the house of the LORD, though the LORD had said concerning that house, “In Jerusalem I will put my name!”

And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.
6
He even made his son pass through the fire, practiced divination and soothsaying, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking Him to anger.

He also set the carved image of Asherah that he had made in the house, though the LORD had said to David and to Solomon his son concerning that house, “In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name forever!

And I will not again cause the feet of Israel to wander from the land that I gave to their fathers, if only they will be careful to do all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that My servant Moses commanded them.”

But they would not listen, and Manasseh led them astray, so that they did more evil than the nations whom the LORD destroyed before the people of Israel.

Then the LORD spoke by His servants the prophets:

“Because Manasseh king of Judah has committed these abominations and has done evil more than all that the Amorites did before him, and has also caused Judah to sin with his idols,
12
therefore thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Behold, I am bringing such disaster upon Jerusalem and Judah that the ears of everyone who hears of it will tingle.
13
And I will stretch over Jerusalem the measuring line of Samaria and the plumb line of the house of Ahab; and I will wipe Jerusalem clean as one wipes a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down.”
14
I will cast off the remnant of My inheritance and give them into the hand of their enemies, and they shall become plunder and spoil to all their enemies,
15
because they have done what is evil in My sight and have provoked Me to anger, from the day their fathers came out of Egypt even to this day.”
16
Moreover, Manasseh shed very much innocent blood, until he had filled Jerusalem from one end to the other, besides his sins by which he caused Judah to sin also, by doing what was evil in the sight of the LORD.

Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, all that he did, and the sins that he committed, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
18
Then Manasseh rested with his fathers, and was buried in the garden of his own house, in the garden of Uzza. And Amon his son became king in his place.
19
Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Meshullemeth the daughter of Haruz, of Jotbah.

He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, as Manasseh his father had done.
21
He walked in all the way his father had walked, serving the idols that his father had served and bowing down to them.
22
He forsook the LORD, the God of his fathers, and did not walk in the way of the LORD.
23
And the servants of Amon conspired against him and killed the king in his own house.
24
But the people of the land struck down all those who had conspired against King Amon; and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his place.
25
Now the rest of the acts of Amon, what he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

And he was buried in his tomb in the garden of Uzza. And Josiah his son became king in his place.

2 Kings 21 records the reign of King Manasseh, son of Hezekiah, who became a symbol of complete apostasy in Judah. Though Hezekiah was known for his obedience and reforms, Manasseh reversed all of that. He rebuilt the places of idolatry, even setting up altars for gods in the house of the LORD itself. More than that, he also practiced occult things and shed innocent blood, making his reign a turning point of spiritual darkness in Judah.
📌 1. Manasseh Becomes King and Does Great Evil (verses 1–9)
➡️ Manasseh came to the throne at the age of 12 and reigned for 55 years — the longest-reigning king of Judah
➡️ He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, following the abominations of the Canaanites whom the Lord had driven out
➡️ He rebuilt the high places that Hezekiah had destroyed
➡️ He set up an altar for Baal, made an Asherah image, and worshiped the host of heaven (the sun, moon, and stars)
➡️ Worst of all: he built an idol altar in the house of the LORD itself!
➡️ Manasseh also offered his son as a sacrifice, practiced sorcery, spiritism, and consulted the dead
🎯 Total apostasy occurs when a leader sets aside the word of God and replaces it with false worship.
📌 2. The LORD Sends a Warning (verses 10–15)
➡️ The LORD spoke through the prophets, warning that Judah would face a great disaster
➡️ The LORD said that He would wipe away Jerusalem as one wipes a dish, and turns it upside down
➡️ This was because they forsook the LORD and followed other gods
🎯 The LORD’s warning is serious — sin is not ignored forever, even if judgment is delayed.
📌 3. Manasseh Shed Much Blood (verse 16)
➡️ He shed very much innocent blood, until “Jerusalem was filled from end to end”
➡️ This may include the killing of prophets such as Isaiah (according to Jewish tradition)
