From Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who with us have obtained a faith of equal standing through the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ.

May grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

For His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glorious and marvelous power.

Through these He has granted to us His precious and very great promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith virtue, and to virtue knowledge,

and to knowledge self-control, and to self-control perseverance, and to perseverance godliness,

and to godliness brotherly affection, and to brotherly affection love for all.

For if these things are yours and abound, they will make you active and fruitful in the knowledge of Jesus Christ our Lord.

But whoever lacks these things is blind and shortsighted, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.

Therefore, my brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never stumble.

In this way, the right to enter the eternal Kingdom will be richly provided to you, the Kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Therefore I intend always to remind you of these things, even though you know them and are established in the truth that you have received.

I consider it my duty to keep reminding you of these things as long as I remain in this tent of my body.

For I know that I will soon lay aside this tent of my body, just as our Lord Jesus Christ has made known to me.

But I will make every effort so that after my departure you may always remember these things.

For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ as King, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.

For we saw how He received honor and glory from God the Father, when a voice came to Him from the Majestic Glory, saying: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

The voice we heard came from heaven, when we were with Him on the holy mountain.

And so we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

Above all, you must know this: that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation,

for no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
