Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together with him, we ask you, brothers and sisters,

that you not be quickly shaken in mind or troubled, either by a spirit, or by a message, or by a letter said to be from us, as though the day of the Lord had already come.

Let no one deceive you in any way! For that day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the one who is to perish,

the adversary who exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped. He even sits in the temple of God, declaring himself to be God.

Do you not remember that I told you these things often when I was still with you?

And now you know what restrains him, so that he may be revealed only at the appointed time.

For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work, but there is one who restrains it now. When the one who restrains is removed,

then the lawless one will be revealed, but the Lord Jesus will slay him with the breath of his mouth and will bring him to nothing at his coming.

The coming of the lawless one is by the working of Satan, with all kinds of mighty works, signs, and false wonders,

and with every kind of evil deception for those who are perishing, because they did not receive and love the truth that could save them.

And for this reason God sends them a deluding influence, so that they believe what is false,

so that all who did not believe the truth but delighted in unrighteousness may be judged.

But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers and sisters beloved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning for salvation through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through the truth you believed.

To this he called you through the gospel we proclaim, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Therefore, stand firm and hold fast to the teachings you received from us, whether by word of mouth or by letter.
16
And may he, our Lord Jesus Christ, and God our Father, who in his grace loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope,

comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.
