At one time, as the hour of prayer was drawing near, that is, at three in the afternoon, Peter and John went up to the temple.

There was a man there who had been lame from birth, so that he had to be carried. Every day he was laid at the gate of the temple, called the Beautiful Gate, to beg from those who entered the temple.

When he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked for alms.

They looked straight at him, and Peter said, “Look at us.”

So the man gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them.

But Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!”

Then he took him by the right hand and helped him up. At once his feet and ankles became strong.

He sprang up, stood, and began to walk about, and he went with them into the temple, walking and leaping and praising God.

All the people saw him walking and praising God,

and they recognized him as the one who used to sit begging at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

While the man still held on to Peter and John, all the people, greatly astonished, came running together to them in the portico called Solomon’s Portico.

When Peter saw the crowd, he said, “Men of Israel, why are you amazed at this, and why do you stare at us as though by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?

The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you handed over and denied before Pilate, though Pilate had decided to release Him.

But you denied the Holy and Righteous One and asked for a murderer to be granted to you.

You killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead; of this we are witnesses.

And by faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know has been made strong by that name; and the faith that comes through Him has given this man perfect healing in the presence of you all.

And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers.

But in this way God fulfilled what He had foretold through the mouth of all His prophets, that His Christ would suffer.

Therefore repent and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped away,

that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, and that He may send Jesus, who was appointed for you from the beginning as the Christ.

Heaven must receive Christ until the time of the restoration of all things, as God spoke long ago through the mouth of His holy prophets.

For Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet from among your brothers, like me; you shall listen to him in everything he tells you.

And it shall be that every soul who does not listen to that prophet will be cut off from among the people.’

And all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who came after him, have also foretold these days.

You are the heirs of those prophets and share in the covenant that God made with our fathers, when He said to Abraham, ‘And through your offspring all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’

And for you first, God raised up His Servant and sent Him to you, to bless you by turning each one of you away from all your wickedness.’
