Does the Bible Contradict Science?

Science and Faith: Two Opposing Paths?
Many people think that the Bible and science are like two opposite poles. On one side, science offers evidence, data, and logic. On the other side, the Bible is considered to speak about faith, miracles, and supernatural things. But is it true that they contradict each other? Or perhaps, can they actually coexist?

The Bible Was Not Written to Be a Science Book
One important thing to understand is that the Bible was never intended to be a science book. The Bible was written to convey a message about the relationship between humans and God, not to explain physics formulas or evolutionary theory. For example, in Genesis 1, the creation of the world is presented in poetic and symbolic language. The focus is not on the scientific process, but on who created it and why it happened.

Science Explains the โ€˜Howโ€™, the Bible Answers the โ€˜Whyโ€™
Science answers questions like: how was the earth formed? What causes rain? How can humans breathe? Meanwhile, the Bible answers deeper questions: why do we exist? What is the purpose of life? What is the meaning of suffering? Psalm 19:2 says, โ€œThe heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.โ€ This shows that creation can be a window to know the Creator.

Scientists Who Believe in the Bible
Many great scientists in history actually believed in God. Isaac Newton, for example, was not only a great scientist but also someone who deeply respected the Bible. Even today, many Christian scientists remain active in research while maintaining their faith.

Itโ€™s Not Science That Conflicts, But Its Interpretation
The conflict between science and faith often arises not because of the content of the Bible or scientific findings, but because of human interpretations of both. For example, some consider evolution to contradict creation, whereas some theologians see that evolution could be part of the way God creates. Isaiah 55:9 says, โ€œAs the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.โ€ It may be that Godโ€™s way of working far surpasses human logic.

Faith Is Not Contrary to Knowledge
Faith does not mean rejecting reason. In fact, Christian faith teaches that God gave humans intellect to investigate His creation. Proverbs 25:2 says, โ€œIt is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings.โ€ Science can be our way to explore the hidden glory of God in the universe.

Conclusion: Harmony Between Heaven and the Laboratory
So, does the Bible contradict science? Not really. Both speak about reality, but from different perspectives. The Bible gives meaning and direction, while science provides understanding of the mechanisms of this world. When both are properly respected, we can see a more complete beauty: this vast universe is not just a result of chance, but also the design of the Creator.
