Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in Christ has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.

For in Him God chose us before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blemish before Him.

In love He predestined us through Jesus Christ to be His children, according to the good pleasure of His will,

to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.

In Him and through His blood we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace,

which He lavished on us in all wisdom and understanding.

For He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure, which He had purposed in Christ

as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in Christ as Head, things in heaven and things on earth.

I say “in Christ,” because in Him we have obtained an inheritance — we who were appointed beforehand to receive it according to the purpose of God, who works all things according to the counsel of His will —

so that we, who first hoped in Christ, might be for the praise of His glory.

In Him you also — when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation — in Him you also, when you believed, were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.

And that Holy Spirit is the guarantee of our inheritance until we receive the full possession of it, the redemption that makes us God’s own, to the praise of His glory.

Therefore, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and of your love for all the saints,

I do not cease giving thanks for you. I keep remembering you in my prayers,

and asking the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, that He may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation to know Him truly.

And that He may enlighten the eyes of your heart, so that you may understand what hope is contained in His calling: how rich is the glory of the inheritance He has appointed for the saints,

and how surpassingly great His power is toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty strength,
20
which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from among the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavens,
21
far above every rule and authority and power and kingdom and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.

And He put all things under His feet and gave Him to the church as Head over all things.

The church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
