(5-24) But the LORD said to Moses, “Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh; for by a mighty hand he will let them go, yes, by a mighty hand he will drive them out of his land.”

(6-1) Then God spoke to Moses, saying, “I am the LORD.

(6-2) I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as God Almighty, but by My name the LORD I was not known to them.
4
(6-3) I also established My covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land in which they lived as strangers,

(6-4) and I have also heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians have enslaved, and I have remembered My covenant.

(6-5) Therefore say to the Israelites: I am the LORD; I will free you from the forced labor of the Egyptians, deliver you from their bondage, and redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments.
7
(6-6) I will take you as My people, and I will be your God, so that you may know that I am the LORD your God, who frees you from the forced labor of the Egyptians.
8
(6-7) And I will bring you into the land that I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and I will give it to you as your possession; I am the LORD.”
9
(6-8) Then Moses spoke thus to the Israelites, but they would not listen to Moses because of their discouragement and because of their hard bondage.

(6-9) Then the LORD spoke to Moses:

(6-10) “Go in and speak to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, that he must let the Israelites go out of his land.”
12
(6-11) But Moses said before the LORD, “The Israelites themselves do not listen to me; how then will Pharaoh listen to me, since I am unskilled in speech!”

(6-12) So the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, and sent them to the Israelites and to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, with the command to bring the Israelites out of Egypt.

(6-13) These are the heads of their families: The sons of Reuben, Israel’s firstborn: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi; these are the clans of Reuben.

(6-14) The sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul, the son of a Canaanite woman; these are the clans of Simeon.
16
(6-15) These are the names of the sons of Levi according to their birth order: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. Levi lived one hundred thirty-seven years.

(6-16) The sons of Gershon: Libni and Shimei, according to their clans.

(6-17) The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. The age of Kohath was one hundred and thirty-three years.

(6-18) The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. These were the clans of the Levites according to their order.

(6-19) And Amram took Jochebed, his father’s sister, as his wife, and she bore him Aaron and Moses. The age of Amram was one hundred and thirty-seven years.

(6-20) The sons of Izhar: Korah, Nepheg, and Zichri.

(6-21) The sons of Uzziel: Mishael, Elzaphan, and Sithri.

(6-22) And Aaron took Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab, sister of Nahshon, as his wife, and she bore him Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

(6-23) The sons of Korah: Assir, Elkanah, and Abiasaph; these were the clans of the Korahites.

(6-24) Eleazar, Aaron’s son, took one of the daughters of Putiel as his wife, and she bore him Phinehas. These were the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites according to their clans.
26
(6-25) These are Aaron and Moses, to whom the LORD gave command: “Bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt according to their armies.”
27
(6-26) They are the ones who spoke to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, so that they might bring the children of Israel out of Egypt. These are Moses and Aaron.

(6-27) At the time when the LORD spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt,

(6-28) the LORD spoke to him, saying: “I am the LORD; tell Pharaoh, king of Egypt, all that I speak to you.”
30
(6-29) But Moses said before the LORD: “Am I not one slow of speech? How then will Pharaoh listen to me?”

Exodus 6 is God’s response to Moses’ complaint in the previous chapter. God reaffirms His promise to deliver the people of Israel and reveals Himself with His full and meaningful name.
1. God Reaffirms His Promise to Moses (verses 1–13)
- God said that He would compel Pharaoh to let the people of Israel go “with a strong hand.”
- God reveals Himself again as:
“I am the LORD (YHWH). I made Myself known to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as God Almighty (El Shaddai), but not by My name ‘LORD.’”
- He remembers His covenant and declares:
“I will bring you out… I will take you as My people… I will be your God.”
- God will bring Israel to the land promised to their ancestors.
- Moses spoke this to the people of Israel, but they did not listen because of their broken spirit and hard bondage.
2. The Genealogy of Moses and Aaron (verses 14–27)
- This section mentions the genealogy of the tribe of Levi, showing the lineage of Moses and Aaron lawfully as spiritual leaders and servants of God.
- The sons of Levi are named: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari, along with their descendants down to Moses and Aaron.
3. The Repetition of the Lord’s Command (verses 28–30)
- Once again Moses states that he was “not fluent in speech,” and felt unable to face Pharaoh.
- But the Lord still commanded Moses to speak to Pharaoh.
