O LORD, I have heard the report about You, and I fear Your work, O LORD!
Revive it in the midst of the years; make it known in the midst of the years;
in wrath remember mercy!

God came from the land of Teman, and the Holy One from the mountains of Paran. Selah
His majesty covered the heavens, and the earth was full of praise to Him.

There was a brightness like light, rays flashed from His side,
and there His power was hidden.

Before Him went pestilence,
and fever followed at His feet.
6
He stood, and the earth was made to shake;
He looked, and the nations were made to tremble;
ancient mountains were shattered,
ancient hills sank low;
this was His way through the ages.
7
I saw the tents of Cushan in distress,
the curtains of the land of Midian trembling.
8
Was it against the rivers, O LORD, against the rivers that Your anger burned?
Or was Your wrath against the sea, that You rode on Your horses and Your chariots of victory?

You uncovered Your bow, and filled it with arrows. Selah
You split the earth into rivers;

the mountains saw You and trembled, the flood rushed by,
the deep gave forth its voice and lifted up its hands.

The sun and moon stood still in their dwelling place,
because of the light of Your flying arrows,
because of the flashing brightness of Your spear.

In indignation You marched through the earth,
in wrath You trampled the nations.
13
You went out to save Your people, to save Your anointed one.
You crushed the head of the house of the wicked, laying it bare from foundation to the last stone. Selah
14
You pierced with his own arrows the head of his warriors, who came like a whirlwind to scatter me,
rejoicing as if to devour the poor in secret.
15
With Your horses You trod the sea, the heap of surging waters.
16
When I heard, my heart trembled,
my lips quivered at the sound;
rottenness entered my bones,
and I trembled where I stood;
yet I will quietly wait for the day of trouble,
which will come upon the people who invade us.
17
Though the fig tree does not blossom, and there is no fruit on the vines;
though the yield of the olive fails, and the fields produce no food;
though the flock is cut off from the fold, and there is no herd in the stalls,
18
yet I will rejoice in the LORD;
I will be glad in the God of my salvation.
19
The LORD my God is my strength: he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
he lets me tread upon my high places.

Habakkuk 3 is the prophet’s final response to his struggle. After wrestling with injustice and receiving God’s surprising answer, Habakkuk prays in the form of poetry and song. He recalls God’s great works in the past, then declares complete trust in the Lord — even if everything falls apart. This is the climax of the journey of faith: from lament to worship.

Habakkuk does not ask God to cancel the judgment, but pleads for mercy in the midst of His wrath.

Habakkuk remembers God’s actions in the days of Moses and Joshua:
