Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.

For if the word spoken through angels proved firm, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense,

how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at first was announced by the Lord and was confirmed to us by those who heard it,

while God also bore witness with signs and wonders and with various displays of power and gifts of the Holy Spirit, distributed according to His will.

For it was not to angels that He subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking.

But someone has testified somewhere, saying:

“What is man, that You remember him,
or the son of man, that You care for him?

You made him for a little while lower than the angels,
and crowned him with glory and honor,

putting everything under his feet.”

For in subjecting everything to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. Yet at present we do not see everything subjected to him.

But we see Him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.

For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from One; for this reason He is not ashamed to call them brothers,

Since the children share in flesh and blood, He also likewise partook of the same, so that through death He might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,

and free those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

For surely it is not angels that He helps, but the descendants of Abraham that He helps.

For this reason He had to be made like His brothers in every way, so that He might become a High Priest who is merciful and faithful to God, to make atonement for the sins of the whole people.
