Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity. Let us not lay again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith in God,

the teaching about various baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.

And this we will do, if God permits.

For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and who have shared in the Holy Spirit,

and who have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,

and then have fallen away, to be renewed again to repentance, since they are crucifying again for themselves the Son of God and holding Him up to public shame.

For land that drinks in the rain that often falls on it and produces plants useful to those who cultivate it receives a blessing from God;

but if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed, and its end is to be burned.

But, beloved, even though we speak in this way about you, we are convinced of better things concerning you, things that belong to salvation.

For God is not unjust, so as to forget your work and the love you have shown for His name by serving the saints, as you continue to do.

But we desire that each one of you show the same earnestness to make your hope a sure possession until the end,

so that you may not become sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit what God has promised.

For when God made His promise to Abraham, He swore by Himself, since there was no one greater by whom to swear,

saying, “Surely I will bless you abundantly and multiply you greatly.”

And Abraham waited patiently, and so he obtained what was promised to him.

For people swear by one greater than themselves, and the oath serves as confirmation for them, ending every dispute.

Therefore, to make more certain to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose, God bound Himself with an oath,

so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge may have strong encouragement to seize the hope set before us.

This hope is a strong and secure anchor for our soul, which has been cast out beyond the veil,

where Jesus has entered as a Forerunner for us, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.
