(1-12) Say to your brothers, “Ami!” and to your sisters, “Ruhama!”

(2-1) “Bring a charge against your mother; bring a charge, for she is not my wife, and I am not her husband. Let her put away her whoredom from her face, and her adultery from between her breasts,

(2-2) lest I strip her naked and leave her as on the day she was born, and make her like a wilderness, and make her like a dry land, and let her die of thirst.

(2-3) As for her children, I will have no pity on them, for they are children of whoredom.

(2-4) For their mother has played the whore; she who conceived them has acted shamefully. For she said, ‘I will go after my lovers, who give me my bread and my water, my wool and my linen, my oil and my drink.’

(2-5) Therefore, behold, I will hedge up her way with thorns, and I will build a wall against her, so that she cannot find her paths.

(2-6) She shall pursue her lovers, but not overtake them; she shall seek them, but not find them. Then she shall say, ‘I will go and return to my first husband, for then it was better with me than now.’

(2-7) But she did not know that it was I who gave her the grain, the new wine, and the oil, and who lavished on her silver and gold, which they used for Baal.
9
(2-8) Therefore I will take back my grain in its time, and my wine in its season, and I will seize away my wool and my linen, which were to cover her nakedness.

(2-9) Now I will uncover her shame in the sight of her lovers, and no one shall deliver her out of my hand.

(2-10) I will put an end to all her mirth, her feasts, her new moons, her Sabbaths, and all her appointed times.

(2-11) I will destroy her vines and her fig trees, of which she said, ‘These are my wages, which my lovers have given me!’ I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall devour them.

(2-12) And I will punish her for the days when she burned offerings to the Baals, when she decked herself with her earrings and her jewelry, and went after her lovers and forgot me,” declares the LORD.

(2-13) “Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her.
15
(2-14) And there I will give her her vineyards, and make the Valley of Achor a door of hope. There she shall answer as in the days of her youth, as in the time when she came up out of the land of Egypt.

(2-15) Then at that time, declares the LORD, you will call Me: My Husband, and no longer call Me: My Baal!

(2-16) For I will remove the names of the Baals from your mouth, and they shall no longer be remembered by name.
18
(2-17) And I will make a covenant for you at that time with the beasts of the field, with the birds of the air, and with the creeping things of the ground; and I will break the bow, the sword, and war from the land, and I will make you lie down in safety.
19
(2-18) I will betroth you to Me forever; yes, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and justice, in steadfast love and compassion.
20
(2-19) I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, and you shall know the LORD.
21
(2-20) And it shall be at that time, declares the LORD, that I will answer the heavens, and the heavens shall answer the earth;
22
(2-21) and the earth shall answer the grain, the new wine, and the oil, and they shall answer Jezreel.
23
(2-22) I will sow her for Myself in the land, and I will have compassion on Lo-Ruhamah, and I will say to Lo-Ami: You are My people! and he shall say: My God!”
💔🌾💍 Summary of Hosea 2 – The Punishment & Restoration of God’s Love for Israel
Hosea 2 continues the tragic yet hopeful story of the relationship between God and Israel. After the spiritual unfaithfulness of His people is described in Hosea 1, this chapter shows the consequences of sin in suffering, but also the promise of steadfast love and divine restoration. God acts like a betrayed husband, yet still longs for his wife to return — with a love that is unconditional.
📌 1. Charges against Unfaithful Israel (verses 1–5)
“Your mother has played the harlot… She said: I will follow after my lovers…”
- Israel is compared to a wife who is unfaithful, pursuing other gods such as Baal
- The people believed that blessings such as grain, wine, and oil came from the gods, not from God
- The Lord declares that He will expose their shame before all

- God will block Israel’s access to her spiritual “lovers” (idols)
- He will take back His blessing (grain, wine, oil)
- The days of feasting for Baal will be stopped
- The Lord disciplines out of love, not hatred
🎯 God does not let us remain comfortable in sin — He disturbs the path of sin so that we may return.
📌 3. Promise of Repentance and Restoration (verses 14–23)
“Therefore, behold, I will allure her, bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her…”
- After the time of judgment, God brings Israel back into the wilderness — a place of silence and dependence, like the days of first love (the exodus from Egypt)
- He promises to:
Give vineyards
Turn the “Valley of Achor” (trouble) into a “door of hope”
Remove the word “Baal” from the lips of His people
Marry His people again with love, justice, mercy, and faithfulness

→ Like Hosea, Paul saw the church as the bride of Christ who must be faithful.
“Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her…”
→ Hosea’s love reflects Christ’s love, willing to die to restore relationship.
“You who once were not a people, but now are God’s people…”
→ The restoration of the name from Lo-Ammi to “Ammi” (My people) is fulfilled in Christ.
