The righteous perish,
and no one takes it to heart;
the devout are taken away,
and no one gives it thought;
indeed, because of the spread of evil, the life of the righteous is taken away

and he enters into peace;
those who walk uprightly
find rest on their beds.

But you, draw near here,
you children of sorceresses,
you offspring of an adulterer and a prostitute!

Of whom are you making sport,
and against whom do you open your mouth wide and mock?
Are you not children of rebellion,
offspring of deceit,

you who burn with lust among the sacred trees,
under every leafy tree,
you who slaughter children in the valleys,
in the clefts of the rocks.

Among the smooth stones of the ravine is your portion;
yes, they are your lot;
to them also you pour out drink offerings,
and present grain offerings.
Shall I be appeased by these things?

On a high and lofty mountain
you have set your bed,
and there you also went up
to offer sacrifice.

Behind the door and the doorpost
you have set up your memorial;
yes, you have forsaken Me and uncovered yourself,
you have gone up to your bed and made it wide;
you have made a covenant with those you desired
to lie with them,
and you have looked upon the phallus.

You went to the king with oil
and multiplied your perfumes;
you sent your envoys far away,
and sent them down even to Sheol.

By your many journeys you were wearied,
but you did not say, “There is no hope!”
You found renewed strength,
and so you did not grow faint.

Whom did you dread and fear,
that you lied
and did not remember Me
or take Me to heart?
Was it not because I kept silent and closed My eyes,
that you did not fear Me!

I will declare your righteousness
and your deeds,
but they will not profit you:
13
when you cry out,
let your idols deliver you!
All of them the wind will carry off,
a breath will blow them away.
But he who takes refuge in Me shall inherit the land
and shall possess My holy mountain.

And it shall be said:
“Build up, build up, prepare the way,
remove every stumbling block from the way of My people!”

For thus says the High and Lofty One,
who dwells forever, whose name is Holy:
“I dwell in the high and holy place,
but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit,
to revive the spirit of the lowly
and to revive the heart of the contrite.
16
For I will not contend forever,
nor will I be angry always;
for the spirit would grow faint before Me,
though it is I who made the breath of life.

Because of the guilt of his greedy gain I was angry;
I struck him, I hid My face and was angry,
but he went on turning away in the way his heart chose.
18
I have seen all his ways,
but I will heal him and will lead him
and restore comfort to him;
also to the lips of his mourners

I will create praise.
Peace, peace to those far off and to those near,
— says the LORD — I will heal him!

But the wicked are like the tossing sea,
for it cannot be still,
and its waters cast up mire and mud.
