From where do quarrels and fights among you come? Do they not come from your desires that battle within your bodies?

You desire something, but you do not obtain it; then you kill. You envy, but you do not achieve your aim; then you quarrel and fight. You do not receive anything, because you do not pray.

Or you do pray, but you receive nothing, because you ask wrongly, since what you ask for is to be spent on satisfying your desires.

You unfaithful people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wants to be a friend of this world makes himself an enemy of God.

Do not suppose that Scripture speaks without reason: “The Spirit that God has placed within us He desires with jealousy!”

But the grace He has given us is greater than that. Therefore He says:
“God opposes the proud,
but He shows mercy to the humble.”

Therefore submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you!

Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners! and purify your hearts, you double-minded!

Recognize your misery, grieve and mourn; let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to sorrow.

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.

My brothers, do not speak against one another! Whoever speaks against his brother or judges him speaks against the law and judges it; and if you judge the law, then you are not a doer of the law, but its judge.
