1
The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah who were dwelling in the land of Egypt, in Migdol, in Tahpanhes, in Memphis, and in the land of Pathros:

“Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: You have seen all the disaster that I brought upon Jerusalem and upon all the cities of Judah; behold, they are now a ruin and no one dwells there.
3
It was because of the evil they did to provoke Me, in that they went to burn offerings and to serve other gods that neither they nor you nor your fathers had known.
4
Yet again and again I sent to you all My servants, the prophets, saying, ‘Oh, do not do this abominable thing that I hate!’
5
But they would not listen and would not pay attention, to turn from their evil and to burn no more offerings to other gods.
6
Therefore My burning anger and My wrath were poured out and kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, so that they became a ruin and a desolation, as it is today.
7
And now thus says the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: Why are you bringing this great disaster upon yourselves, cutting off from Judah man and woman, child and infant, leaving yourselves no remnant?
8
Why do you provoke Me by the work of your hands, burning offerings to other gods in the land of Egypt, where you have come to live as foreigners? Why do you make yourselves a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?
9
Have you forgotten the evil of your fathers, the evil of the kings of Judah, the evil of their princes, your own evil, and the evil of your wives, which they committed in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
10
They have not been humbled to this day; they have not feared and have not walked in My law and in My statutes that I set before you and before your fathers.
11
Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I am setting My face against you for harm, to cut off all Judah.
12
I will take away the remnant of Judah who have set their hearts to go to the land of Egypt to live there as foreigners; they shall all be consumed in the land of Egypt. They shall fall by the sword and be consumed by famine, from the least to the greatest; by sword and by famine they shall die, and they shall become a curse, a horror, a curse, and a reproach.
13
I will punish those who dwell in the land of Egypt, just as I punished Jerusalem, with the sword, with famine, and with pestilence,
14
so that from the remnant of Judah, who have gone to the land of Egypt to live there as foreigners, none shall escape or be left to return to the land of Judah, to which they long to return and dwell again; indeed, they shall not return, except for a few fugitives.”
15
Then all the men who knew that their wives were burning offerings to other gods, and all the women who were present there, a great assembly, all the people who lived in the land of Egypt and in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying:

“As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of God, we will not listen to you,
17
but we will certainly do everything that we have said: we will burn offerings to the queen of heaven and pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers and our kings and our officials, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. At that time we had plenty of food; we were happy and suffered no trouble.
18
But since we stopped burning offerings and pouring out drink offerings to the queen of heaven, we have lacked everything and have been consumed by the sword and by famine.”
19
Then the women added, “When we burned offerings and poured out drink offerings to the queen of heaven, was it without the knowledge of our husbands that we made cakes in her image and poured out drink offerings to her?”
20
After this Jeremiah said to all the people, to the men and the women and to all who had answered him, saying:
21
“Was it not the burning offerings that you yourselves, your fathers, your kings, your officials, and the people of the land offered in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem that the LORD remembered and took into account?
22
The LORD could no longer endure the evil deeds and the abominations that you committed; therefore your land has become a ruin, a horror, and a curse, without inhabitant, as it is today.
23
You have burned offerings and have sinned against the LORD, not listening to the voice of the LORD and not following his law, his statutes, and his ordinances; that is why this disaster has come upon you, as it is today.”
24
Then Jeremiah said to all the people and to all the women, “Hear the word of the LORD, all you people of Judah who are in the land of Egypt.
25
Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: You and your wives have spoken with your mouths and fulfilled it with your hands, saying, ‘We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn offerings and pour out drink offerings to the queen of heaven.’ Very well, then, carry out your vows and fulfill your vows!

Therefore hear the word of the LORD, all you people of Judah who dwell in the land of Egypt: Behold, I have sworn by my great name, says the LORD, that my name shall no more be called upon by any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, ‘As the Lord GOD lives.’
27
Behold, I am watching over them for disaster and not for good; all the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by famine until they are utterly destroyed.
28
Yet a small number who escape the sword shall return from the land of Egypt to the land of Judah. Then all the remnant of Judah who came to the land of Egypt to live there as foreigners shall know whose word will stand, mine or theirs.
29
And this shall be the sign to you, says the LORD, that I will punish you in this place, so that you may know that my words against you will surely stand for your disaster.
30
Thus says the LORD: Behold, I will give Pharaoh Hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies and into the hand of those who seek his life, as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, his enemy who sought his life.”
🔥🗿💔 Summary of Jeremiah 44 – Total Rebellion and the Final Word in Egypt
Jeremiah 44 records the final confrontation between God and the people of Judah who had fled to Egypt. God rebukes them through Jeremiah because they continue worshiping a foreign goddess (the Queen of Heaven), even though they had already experienced destruction in Jerusalem because of the same sin. But the people refuse to repent, even saying they will keep serving that goddess because they felt their lives were better when they did. Jeremiah then declares that God’s wrath will destroy them in Egypt, and they will never return to Judah except as corpses.

“We will continue to burn offerings to the Queen of Heaven…”
➡️ The people answered Jeremiah by rejecting the word of the Lord.
➡️ They believed that their lives were more prosperous when they worshiped the Queen of Heaven (a fertility goddess).
➡️ Even the women said they worshiped that goddess with the support of their husbands.
🎯 A cherished sin will be defended, even when it has already been shown to bring disaster.

“I will take note of your deeds… and I will punish you.”
➡️ Jeremiah replied: it was precisely because you worshiped foreign gods that you were punished and your city was destroyed.
➡️ The Lord will give a sign: Egypt too will fall, and Pharaoh Hophra will be defeated by his enemies, as Zedekiah was.
