Then Jesus appeared again to the disciples by the shore of the Sea of Tiberias, and He appeared in this way.

On the shore were gathered Simon Peter, Thomas called Didymus, Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other of His disciples.

Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We are going with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.

When morning was coming on, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.

Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered Him, “No.”

Then Jesus said to them, “Cast your net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in because of the great number of fish.

Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord.” When Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was not clothed, and plunged into the sea.

The other disciples came in the boat, for they were not far from land, only about two hundred cubits away, and they dragged the net full of fish.

When they came to land, they saw a charcoal fire there, with fish laid on it, and bread.

Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.”

Simon Peter went up and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, one hundred and fifty-three of them; and although there were so many, the net was not torn.

Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask Him, “Who are You?” because they knew that it was the Lord.

Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and likewise the fish.

This was now the third time Jesus appeared to His disciples after He was raised from the dead.

After breakfast Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these?” Peter answered Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My lambs.”

Jesus said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” Peter answered Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Shepherd My sheep.”

Jesus said to him a third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because Jesus said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.”

I tell you the truth: when you were young, you used to gird yourself and walk wherever you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish.”

This He said to show by what kind of death Peter would glorify God. And after saying this, He said to Peter: “Follow Me.”

Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them, the one who at the meal had leaned close to Jesus and had said, “Lord, who is it that will betray You?”

When Peter saw this disciple, he said to Jesus: “Lord, what about this man?”

Jesus answered: “If I desire that he remain alive until I come, what is that to you? But you: follow Me.”

So the saying spread among the brothers that that disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not say to Peter that that disciple would not die, but rather: “If I desire that he remain alive until I come, what is that to you.”

This is the disciple who bears witness to these things and who wrote them down, and we know that his testimony is true.

There are also many other things that Jesus did; if every one of them were written down one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would have to be written.

1. Jesus Appears at the Sea of Tiberias (verses 1–14)

Several disciples were fishing: Simon Peter, Thomas, Nathanael, John, James, and two others.
They caught nothing throughout the night.
In the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but they did not recognize Him.
He said, “Cast your net on the right side of the boat.” They did so and caught 153 large fish, yet the net did not tear.
John realized it and said, “It is the Lord!” Peter immediately jumped into the water and swam to the shore.
On the shore, they saw a charcoal fire, fish, and bread, and Jesus said, “Come and have breakfast.”
This was the third appearance of Jesus after the resurrection.

2. Jesus Restores Peter (verses 15–19)

Jesus asked Peter three times:

“Simon, son of John, do you love Me?”
Peter answered “Yes”, and Jesus said:
“Feed My sheep.”

This reflects Peter’s three earlier denials, and now Jesus restores him and entrusts him with responsibility in ministry.
Jesus also foretold that Peter would die as a martyr, showing that he would remain faithful to the end.

3. Jesus and the Beloved Disciple (verses 20–25)

Peter saw the disciple whom Jesus loved (John) and asked, “What about him?”
Jesus answered,

“If I desire that he remain alive until I come, that is not your concern. You follow Me.”

The Gospel writer affirms that this testimony is true, though many other things Jesus did were not written down, and if all were written, the world would not be able to contain them.
