When this was reported to Jabin king of Hazor, he sent word to Jobab king of Madon, to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph,

and to the kings who were in the north, in the hill country, in the Arabah south of Kinnereth, in the lowland, and in the heights of Dor on the west,

that is, to the Canaanite kings on the east and on the west, the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites in the hill country, and the Hivites at the foot of Mount Hermon in the land of Mizpah.

Then these kings came out together with all their armies, a very great multitude, as numerous as the sand on the seashore, with very many horses and chariots.

These kings joined together and came and camped together near the waters of Merom to fight against Israel.

Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them, for tomorrow at about this time I will give all of them, slain, into the hand of Israel. You shall hamstring their horses and burn their chariots with fire.”

So Joshua and all his fighting men came against them suddenly by the waters of Merom and attacked them.
8
And the LORD gave them into the hand of Israel. They were defeated and pursued as far as Great Sidon and Misrephoth-maim, and as far as the valley of Mizpah on the east. They were utterly destroyed, and none of them was left to escape.

Joshua did to them as the LORD had spoken to him: he hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots with fire.

At that time Joshua turned back and captured Hazor, and he struck its king with the sword. For Hazor had formerly been the chief of all those kingdoms.
11
He struck with the sword all the people who were in it, utterly destroying them. There was none left who breathed, and he burned Hazor with fire.
12
All the cities of those kings, together with all their kings, Joshua captured and struck with the sword. He utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded.

But the cities that stood on their mounds Israel did not burn; only Hazor was burned by Joshua.
14
All the spoil of these cities and the livestock the Israelites took as plunder. But all the people they struck with the sword, utterly destroying them; none who breathed was left alive.

Just as the LORD had commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua, and so Joshua did: he left nothing undone of all that the LORD had commanded Moses.

Thus Joshua took all that land: the hill country, all the Negeb, all the land of Goshen, the lowland, and the Arabah, and the hill country of Israel with its lowlands;

from Mount Halak, which rises toward Seir, as far as Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon, at the foot of Mount Hermon. All their kings he captured, and he put them to death.

Joshua made war with all those kings for a long time.

There was not a city that made peace with the Israelites, except the Hivites who lived in Gibeon; they took them all in battle.
20
For it was the LORD who hardened the hearts of those people, so that they would make war against Israel, in order that they might be devoted to destruction, and receive no mercy, but be destroyed, as the LORD commanded Moses.
21
At that time Joshua came and cut off the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, Debir, and Anab, from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel. Joshua devoted them and their cities to destruction.
22
No Anakim were left in the land of the Israelites; only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod did some remain.

So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD had spoken to Moses. And Joshua gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal divisions. Then the land had rest from war.
⚔️🔥🏞️ Summary of Joshua 11 – Victory over the Northern Kings
In Joshua 11, the Israelites faced the largest military coalition in the land of Canaan, led by Jabin, king of Hazor. Though the enemy was many and fully equipped (with horses and chariots), God still secured the victory. Joshua showed complete and uncompromising obedience, so that the conquest of the land of Canaan advanced further.
📌 1. The Great Coalition from the North (verses 1–5)
- King Jabin of Hazor summoned many kings from the north, the hill country, the valley, and the western coast.
- They brought a great number of soldiers, horses, and chariots — a very large army like the sand on the seashore (verse 4).

📌 2. God Secures the Victory (verses 6–9)
- God said to Joshua:
“Do not be afraid because of them; tomorrow at this time I will give them all over to Israel…”
- Joshua attacked them suddenly near Maidon.
- Israel defeated them and burned the chariots and disabled the horses, according to the Lord’s command.

- Hazor, the city that was the strongest and most influential, was burned completely.
- Joshua defeated all the kings and cities without making a peace treaty, except with Gibeon (Joshua 9).
- All this was done according to Moses’ command, and the Lord was with Joshua.
