May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.

Beloved brothers and sisters, while I was earnestly making every effort to write to you about our common salvation, I felt compelled to write to you and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.

For certain people have secretly slipped in among you, those who were long ago marked out for condemnation. They are ungodly people, who misuse the grace of our God for sensuality, and who deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

But even though you have known all this and are no longer in doubt, I want to remind you that the Lord indeed saved His people out of the land of Egypt, yet afterward destroyed those who did not believe.

And that He kept the angels who did not remain within the bounds of their authority, but left their own dwelling place, in eternal chains in the darkness until the judgment of the great day,

just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which in the same way gave themselves to sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desires, have suffered the punishment of eternal fire as a warning to all.

Yet these dreamers also defile their bodies and despise authority, and blaspheme all that is glorious in heaven.

But the archangel Michael, when in a dispute he argued with the Devil about the body of Moses, did not dare to bring against him a judgment of blasphemy, but said, “May the Lord rebuke you!”

But these people blaspheme everything they do not know, and what they do know by instinct, like unreasoning animals, is what brings about their destruction.

Woe to them, for they have gone in the way of Cain, and for profit they have rushed into the error of Balaam, and they have perished in the rebellion of Korah.

These are blemishes at your love feasts, where they feast without shame and care only for themselves; they are like clouds without water, carried along by the wind; they are like trees in autumn, without fruit, uprooted and completely dead.

They are like wild waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; they are like wandering stars, for whom the blackness of darkness has been reserved forever.

About these also Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying: “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His holy ones,

to execute judgment on all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done, and of all the harsh words which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”

These are grumblers and complainers about their lot, living according to their own desires; and their mouths speak arrogant words, and they flatter people for gain.
17
But you, my beloved brothers, remember the words that were spoken beforehand to you by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ.
18
For they said to you, “In the last time there will be mockers, living according to their own ungodly desires.”

These are the ones who cause divisions, governed only by the desires of this world, and living without the Holy Spirit.
20
But you, my beloved brothers, build yourselves up on your most holy faith, and pray in the Holy Spirit.
21
Keep yourselves in the love of God, while waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

Show mercy to those who doubt,

save them by snatching them out of the fire. But show mercy with fear to others also, and hate even the garment stained by sinful desires.

Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless and with great joy before His glory,
25
to the only God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, power, and authority, before all ages, now, and forever. Amen.
