After Ehud died, the Israelites again did what was evil in the sight of the LORD.
2
So the LORD gave them into the hand of Jabin, king of Canaan, who ruled in Hazor. The commander of his army was Sisera, who lived in Harosheth-hagoyim.
3
Then the Israelites cried out to the LORD, for Sisera had nine hundred iron chariots, and for twenty years he had harshly oppressed the Israelites.

At that time Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel.

She used to sit under Deborah’s palm tree between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites came up to her for judgment.

She sent and called for Barak son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali, and said to him, “Has not the LORD, the God of Israel, commanded this: ‘Go, march toward Mount Tabor, taking with you ten thousand men from the sons of Naphtali and from the sons of Zebulun,

and I will draw Sisera, the commander of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his troops, to the river Kishon, and I will give him into your hand’?”

Barak said to Deborah, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you do not go with me, I will not go.”
9
She said, “Very well, I will go with you; nevertheless, the honor will not be yours on the journey you are taking, for the LORD will give Sisera into the hand of a woman.” Then Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh.

Barak summoned Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh, and ten thousand men went up after him; Deborah also went up with him.
11
Now Heber the Kenite had separated himself from the Kenites, from the descendants of Hobab, Moses’ brother-in-law, and had pitched his tent as far as the oak in Zaanannim, which is near Kedesh.

When it was reported to Sisera that Barak son of Abinoam had gone up to Mount Tabor,

he gathered all his chariots, nine hundred iron chariots, and all the people who were with him, from Harosheth-hagoyim to the river Kishon.
14
Then Deborah said to Barak, “Up! For this is the day on which the LORD has given Sisera into your hand. Has not the LORD gone out before you?” So Barak went down from Mount Tabor, and ten thousand men followed him.

And the LORD threw Sisera and all his chariots and all his army into confusion before Barak by the sword; and Sisera got down from his chariot and fled away on foot.
16
Then Barak pursued the chariots and the army as far as Harosheth-hagoyim, and all the army of Sisera fell by the sword; not one was left alive.
17
But Sisera fled on foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, for there was peace between Jabin king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.

Jael went out to meet Sisera and said to him, “Turn aside, my lord, come in; do not be afraid.” So he turned aside into her tent, and she covered him with a blanket.
19
He said to her, “Please give me a little water to drink, for I am thirsty.” So she opened a skin of milk, gave him a drink, and covered him again.
20
He said to her again, “Stand at the entrance of the tent, and if anyone comes and asks you, ‘Is anyone here?’ then say, ‘No.’”
21
But Jael, Heber’s wife, took a tent peg, and she took a hammer in her hand. She came softly to him and drove the peg into his temple until it went down into the ground, for he was fast asleep from weariness; and he died.
22
Then Barak came in pursuit of Sisera. Jael went out to meet him and said, “Come, and I will show you the man you are seeking.” So he went in with her, and there lay Sisera dead, with the peg in his temple.

So on that day God subdued Jabin king of Canaan before the children of Israel.
24
And the hand of the children of Israel pressed harder and harder against Jabin king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan.

- Barak led 10,000 troops, and then the Lord threw Sisera’s army into confusion, so that he got down from his chariot and fled.

- Sisera fled to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite.
- Jael welcomed Sisera kindly, then killed him while he slept by driving a tent peg through his temple.

- After Sisera’s death, the Lord made Israel stronger against Jabin, until at last they destroyed him.
