Lost in the Modern Christmas Season? Return to Christ

Colorful lights, festive songs in shopping centers, huge discounts, and long gift listsโ€”all of these create the “Christmas atmosphere” in the world’s version. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying the warmth of the season, but aren’t we sometimes too immersed in tradition that we forget its essence?

Christmas is not just a celebration, but about the Person who came into the world: Jesus Christ. We can easily get lost in all the outward things, so that unknowingly our hearts drift away from the true meaning. In fact, without Christ, Christmas is just an empty party.

Isaiah 9:6 prophesied, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” This verse reminds us that Christmas is about God’s great grace: Jesus came as the Light for a dark world.

But the world today is so noisy. We might focus more on making our homes look Instagrammable than preparing our hearts. We are busy preparing gifts for others, but bring nothing to the Lord. We arrange Christmas playlists, but forget to open the Bible.

Here is the question: Where is Jesus in your Christmas celebration this year?

In Matthew 2:11, we read how the Magi came to Jesus with great reverence. “And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.” They did not come just to see or take selfies at the manger. They came bringing their hearts and the best offerings.

Christmas should be a moment for us to realign our direction. If until now we have focused more on activities and euphoria, now is the time to refocus our attention on Christ. We need to ask: “What can I offer to Him?” Not just things, but a sincere and obedient life.

Do not let the luxury and bustle of modern Christmas steal the peace that only comes from Christ. John 14:27 says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you.” The world offers many things, but only Christ gives true peace.

True Christmas begins with a heart that returns to Christ. We can enjoy the Christmas tree, songs, and special foods, but do not lose Him who is the reason all of these exist.
