When Jesus came out of the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, “Teacher, look at how massive these stones are and how magnificent these buildings are!”

Then Jesus said to him, “Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left upon another; all will be thrown down.”

As Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives, opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked Him privately:

“Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign when all these things are about to come to their end?”

Then Jesus began to say to them, “Watch out, so that no one leads you astray!

Many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and they will lead many astray.

And when you hear the noise of wars or reports of wars, do not be troubled. These things must happen, but the end is not yet.

For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines. All these are only the beginning of the sufferings leading up to the new age.

But as for you, be on your guard! You will be handed over to councils, and you will be beaten in synagogues, and you will be brought before rulers and kings because of Me, as a testimony to them.

But the gospel must first be proclaimed to all nations.

And when they lead you away and hand you over, do not worry beforehand about what you are to say, but say whatever is given to you at that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.

Brother will hand over brother to death, and a father his child. Children will rise up against their parents and will put them to death.

You will be hated by all because of My name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.”

“When you see the abomination of desolation standing where it ought not to be — let the reader understand — then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains.

Let the one who is on the housetop not go down or go in to take anything out of his house,

16
and let the one who is in the field not turn back to take his cloak.

Woe to those who are pregnant or nursing babies in those days.

Pray that these things may not happen in winter.

For in those days there will be distress such as has not been since the beginning of the creation, which God created, until now, and never will be again.”

And if the Lord had not shortened the time, no living thing would be saved; but for the sake of the chosen ones whom He has chosen, the Lord shortened the time.

At that time, if anyone says to you, ‘Look, the Messiah is here,’ or, ‘Look, the Messiah is there,’ do not believe it.

For false messiahs and false prophets will arise and will perform signs and wonders, with the purpose, if possible, of deceiving the chosen ones.

Be on your guard! I have told you everything beforehand.”

“But in those days, after that suffering, the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light

and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with all His power and glory.

And then He will send out His angels and will gather His chosen ones from the four corners of the earth, from the end of the earth to the end of the sky.

Learn a lesson from the parable of the fig tree. When its branches become tender and begin to sprout, you know that summer is near.

So also, when you see these things happening, know that the time is near, right at the door.

Truly I say to you: this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.

Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.

But about that day or hour no one knows, not the angels in heaven, and not the Son, only the Father.”

“Be on guard and keep watch! For you do not know when the time will come.

It is like a man going on a journey, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, each with his own task, and commanded the doorkeeper to keep watch.

Therefore keep watch, for you do not know when the master of the house will return, whether in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or at dawn,

so that when he comes suddenly, he may not find you sleeping.
