Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.

And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with humanity, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.

And he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more; neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new!” And he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

And he said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.

The one who conquers will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be my son.

But as for the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, the sorcerers, the idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur; this is the second death.”

Then one of the seven angels who held the seven bowls, full of the seven last plagues, came and said to me, “Come here, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”

And in the Spirit he carried me away to a great and high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God.

It had the glory of God, and its radiance was like a most precious jewel, like jasper, clear as crystal.

It had a great and high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and on them were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel.

On the east were three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates, and on the west three gates.

And the wall of the city had twelve foundation stones, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

And the one who spoke with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city, its gates, and its wall.

The city lies foursquare, its length the same as its breadth. And he measured the city with the rod: twelve thousand stadia; its length and breadth and height are equal.

Then he measured its wall: one hundred forty-four cubits, according to human measure, which is also the angel’s measure.

The wall was built of jasper; and the city itself was pure gold, like clear glass.

And the foundations of the city wall were adorned with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald,

the fifth sardonyx, the sixth sardius, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.

And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: each gate was made of a single pearl, and the streets of the city were pure gold, like transparent glass.

And I saw no temple in it; for God, the Lord Almighty, is its temple, and the Lamb also.

And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.

And the nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth bring their wealth into it;

and its gates will never be shut by day, for there will be no night there;

and the wealth and honor of the nations will be brought into it.

But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who practices abomination or falsehood, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

📖 Revelation 21 – The New Heaven, the New Jerusalem, and God’s Dwelling

🌍 Verses 1–4 – The New Heaven, the New Earth, and the New Jerusalem

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth…”
— Revelation 21:1

The first heaven and the first earth have passed away, and the sea is no more.
The New Jerusalem comes down from heaven, prepared like a bride for her husband.
A voice from the throne says:
- “Behold, the dwelling of God is among men…”
- God dwells with them, they become His people, and He Himself will be with them.
God wipes away every tear, there is no more death, sorrow, crying, or pain — for all the former things have passed away.

🕊️ Verses 5–8 – All Things Made New

“See, I make all things new!”
— Revelation 21:5

God sits on the throne and declares:
- “I am Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End.”
His promise:
- To the thirsty, the water of life will be given freely.
- The one who overcomes will inherit all things — they will be children of God.
But for:
- the cowardly, unbelieving, unclean, murderers, sexually immoral, idolaters, and liars:
  - Their place is in the lake of fire and sulfur — the second death.

🏙️ Verses 9–21 – The New Jerusalem Described

“Come here, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”

The angel showed the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven, full of the glory of God.
The city shone like a most beautiful jewel (a jasper stone).
Its wall was great and high:
- There were 12 gates, each with the name of an Israelite tribe.
- There were 12 foundations, with the names of the 12 apostles of the Lamb written on them.
The city’s size:
- Its length, width, and height are equal – 12,000 stadia (~2,200 km).
Its wall is made of jasper, and the city is pure gold, like glass.
The foundation of the wall is adorned with 12 kinds of precious stones.
12 gates made of 12 pearls, and streets of pure gold.

💡 vv. 22–27 – The Presence of God and the Lamb

“The city does not need the sun or the moon…”

There is no Temple — because the Lord God and the Lamb are its Temple.
The glory of God lights the city, and the Lamb is its lamp.
The nations walk by its light; the kings bring their glory into it.
Its gates will never be shut, because there is no night there.
Only those written in the Lamb’s Book of Life may enter.
Nothing unclean or deceitful will enter it.

✨ Important Theological Points

The final victory of God’s people: Not only freed from death, but living in His presence forever.
The New Jerusalem is a symbol of God’s eternal dwelling with His people, full of glory, peace, and holiness.
Eternal life is not merely the absence of suffering, but the fullness of God’s and the Lamb’s presence.
Holiness and faith are the requirements for entering the city — only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
