Money is a big part of modern human life. We work for money, save, spend, and sometimes even measure our own and others’ worth based on the amount. But the important question is: What exactly is God’s view on money?
Money Is Not the Problem, But the Attitude Toward It
The Bible never states that money is evil. What the Bible says is:
“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil” (1 Timothy 6:10).
Meaning, it is not money itself that is wrong, but the excessive love of money that leads people astray.
God created the world and gave humans authority to manage everything in it (Genesis 1:28). Money is just one tool to carry out that responsibility.
Jesus Spoke a Lot About Money
An interesting fact: Jesus spoke about money and wealth more than other topics like prayer or heaven. Why? Because money reveals a person’s heart.
Matthew 6:21 says: “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
In other words, the way we handle money reflects what we value most.
Money as a Tool, Not a Goal
God wants us to use money as a tool to:
- Blessing others (Proverbs 11:25)
- Showing love and generosity (2 Corinthians 9:7)
- Supporting God’s work (Malachi 3:10)
- Wisely meeting life’s needs (Proverbs 21:20)
But when money becomes a life goal, we begin to be tempted to stray, hoard without purpose, or live greedily.
Cannot Serve Two Masters
Jesus said firmly:
“You cannot serve God and money” (Matthew 6:24).
Money is the personification of wealth and riches made into a god. God wants us to serve only Him, not money.
Conclusion: God Cares About How We Use Money
God does not forbid us from having money. He wants us to be wise and responsible in managing it, not controlled by it, and using it for eternal purposes, not just temporary satisfaction.
Because in the end, all we have is just a trust, and we will be held accountable:
“If you are not faithful with unrighteous money, who will entrust to you the true riches?” (Luke 16:11)
