We all have plans. We set annual targets, imagine what the next five years will look like, even plan our wedding day or career journey as best as possible. But sometimes, life takes a completely different direction. Not to the left, not to the right, but actually turns around.
That’s when we ask: “God, why did You change all my plans?”
Good Plans Are Not Always According to His Will
Often we think, because our plans are good, God will surely agree. But Proverbs 16:9 reminds us:
“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.”
This verse teaches that no matter how detailed we arrange our lives, God still has full authority to redirect them. And that change is often not easy.
Maybe you have experienced failure in something you have prayed for years. Or a relationship you believed was from God ended. At such points, we can be disappointed, angry, even question: Does God really care?
When God Closes a Door, It’s Not the End
The story of Paul in Acts 16:6-7 is very interesting. He and his team intended to go to Asia to preach the Gospel. A clearly good intention. But the Bible records:
“They were kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia… When they came to Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them.”
Imagine, even preaching the Gospel can be prevented by God? But then Paul had a vision of a man from Macedonia asking him to come. From there, the Gospel first entered Europe. What does it mean? God closed one door to open a bigger one.
Learning to Let Go, Not Because We Are Powerless, But Because We Trust
Surrendering our plans to God does not mean we give up without hope, but we choose to trust that His plans are far greater than our logic.
Jeremiah 29:11 says:
“For I know the plans I have for you… plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Letting go is not easy. But in that process, we get to know who God really is: a loving Father, not just a mighty Helper.
Conclusion: Allow God to Be the Master Architect of Your Life
If today you feel that your life is a mess because of failed plans, pause for a moment and look deeper. Perhaps it is not your plan that is wrong, but God is rearranging the foundation of your life to be stronger.
Dare to say, “Lord, I entrust the blueprint of my life into Your hands.” Because in the end, God’s way is not always comfortable, but it is always perfect.
