We have all been in that place: the plan was carefully laid out, the heart was full of hope, and the prayers did not stop. But reality did not match our expectations. A job offer fell through, a relationship ended, a business failed, or a decision that seemed good to us ended badly. The question that most often rises in the heart at times like this is: “Lord, why? Isn’t this a good thing? Haven’t I been praying?”
When everything fails, it is very easy to question God’s goodness. But let us pause for a moment and look at the truth of the Bible, not based on circumstances, but based on who God is.
God Does Not Change Even When Circumstances Change
Psalm 100:5 says, “For the LORD is good; His steadfast love endures forever, and His faithfulness to all generations.” God’s goodness is not the result of good circumstances, but of His eternal nature. That means: even when our plans fail, God is still good. Even in the midst of brokenness and sorrow, His steadfast love never leaves.
We often measure God’s goodness by the results we want. But God cares far more about shaping our character than about our comfort in life. Sometimes He allows failure not to destroy us, but to draw us closer to Him.
God’s Plan Is Higher
Isaiah 55:8-9 clearly reminds us, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways.” This does not mean God rejects all our plans, but He knows what we do not know. A plan that fails in your eyes may actually be a rescue from the wrong path.
An example? Joseph in the Old Testament. He was sold, imprisoned, and betrayed, all of which looked like failure. But all of it was part of God’s plan to save many people (Genesis 50:20).
When You Fail, Learn to Ask the Right Question
Instead of asking, “Why, Lord?” try asking, “What is God working through this?” That question shifts our focus from disappointment to hope. We learn to trust that what is failure in our eyes is not necessarily failure in God’s eyes.
So, Is God Still Good?
Yes. God is still good, even when our plans fail. He is not rejecting you. He is shaping you. And one day, you will look back on that season and say, “Thank You, Lord, because You did not grant this plan of mine.”
God knows better what you need than what you want. And His plan, though not always easy, is always good in the end.
