Many people feel they must have extraordinary talent, a high educational background, or impressive abilities in order to be used by God. Yet, the Bible is full of stories of ordinary people whom God used in extraordinary ways. God is not looking for the most gifted person, but for a heart that is willing to obey.
Just look at David. Before becoming king, he was only a young shepherd tending sheep in the field (1 Samuel 16:11-12). No one considered him special; even his own father did not call him when Samuel came looking for a candidate for king. But God saw his heart, not his appearance (1 Samuel 16:7).
The same was true of Jesus’ disciples. Most of them were not highly educated people or famous religious leaders. Peter was only an ordinary fisherman, Matthew was a tax collector hated by the people, and Thomas was known for his doubts. Yet they were chosen to change the world because they were willing to follow Jesus and learn from Him.
Sometimes we measure ourselves by the world’s standards: how smart we are, how many achievements we have, or how “great” we are compared to others. But Isaiah 55:8-9 reminds us that God’s way of thinking is very different from human thinking. He often uses the small to shame the great, and the weak to shame the strong (1 Corinthians 1:27).
Maybe you feel not smart enough, not experienced enough, or even too full of shortcomings. The good news is that God does not ask us to be perfect. He only asks us to be willing. As happened with Moses, who at first refused because he felt he was not eloquent enough (Exodus 4:10-12), God is the One who will supply every lack we have.
So stop waiting until you feel “ready” or “worthy” to serve God. Start with what is in your hands right now. If all you have is a little time, use it to bless others. If all you have is one small talent, develop it for God’s glory.
God values a willing heart more than impressive ability. When we are willing, God will work through us, and others will see His glory, not our greatness.
Lord, thank You for reminding me that I do not have to be great to be used by You. Forgive me if I often feel insecure or delay because I feel I am not capable enough. Help me to believe that You who call also equip. Use my life, however small it may be, to bring glory to Your name. Amen.
