A divine oracle.
The word of the LORD concerning Israel: Thus says the LORD, who stretches out the heavens and lays the foundation of the earth and forms the spirit of man within him:

“Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup that causes all the surrounding peoples to reel; Judah also will be in distress when Jerusalem is besieged.

In that day I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples. All who lift it shall surely be severely injured. All the nations of the earth will gather against it.
4
In that day, declares the LORD, I will strike every horse with confusion and its rider with madness. But over the house of Judah I will keep watch, while every horse of the peoples I will strike with blindness.
5
Then the clans of Judah shall say in their hearts, The inhabitants of Jerusalem have strength through the LORD of hosts, their God.
6
In that day I will make the clans of Judah like a firepot among pieces of wood, and like a flaming torch among sheaves; they shall devour to the right and to the left all the surrounding peoples, while Jerusalem shall still remain in its own place.

The LORD will first give victory to the tents of Judah, so that the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem may not exalt themselves over Judah.
8
In that day the LORD will protect the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the one who stumbles among them in that day shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God, like the Angel of the LORD, who goes before them.
9
And in that day I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.”

“I will pour out a spirit of grace and of supplication on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and they will look on him whom they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only son, and weep bitterly over him as one weeps over a firstborn.

In that day the mourning in Jerusalem will be as great as the mourning for Hadad-Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.
12
The land shall mourn, each family by itself; the family of the house of David by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of the house of Nathan by itself, and their wives by themselves;

the family of the house of Levi by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of Shimei by itself, and their wives by themselves;
14
and all the remaining families, each family by itself, and their wives by themselves.”

Zechariah 12 foretells Jerusalem’s future as the center of the world’s attention, where the nations will seek to oppose the city — but the Lord Himself will defend and save it. 📌 1. The Lord Protects Jerusalem (verses 1–3)
“I will make Jerusalem like a cup that makes one stagger…”
- Jerusalem will become a cup that makes one stagger for the nations — they try to attack, but instead they become confused.
- The city also becomes a heavy stone that will injure anyone who tries to lift it.
🎯 This is a picture that the Lord makes Jerusalem impossible to conquer by the power of the world.

“I will strike every horse with madness…”
- The Lord will confuse the enemies of Israel — even their horses and riders.
- The tribe of Judah will become a torch of fire among wood, burning up the nations around it.

- The mourning is personal and deep — every family, men and women, mourn separately
