After this David defeated the Philistines and subdued them; and he took Gath and its towns from the hand of the Philistines.

And David defeated the Moabites, so that the Moabites became subject to him and brought tribute.

Then David defeated Hadadezer, king of Zobah, near Hamath, as he went to establish his rule by the Euphrates River.

David captured from him a thousand chariots, seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand foot soldiers; and David had the hamstring tendons of all the chariot horses cut, but he spared a hundred chariot horses.

Then the Arameans from Damascus came to help Hadadezer, king of Zobah, but David struck down twenty-two thousand men of the Arameans.

Then David stationed garrisons in the territory of the Arameans of Damascus, and the Arameans became servants of David, bringing tribute. The LORD gave victory to David wherever he went to fight.

After this David took the gold shields that were carried by the servants of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.

And from Tibhath and from Cun, cities of Hadadezer, David took a very large amount of bronze; from it Solomon made the bronze “sea,” the pillars, and the bronze vessels.

When Tou, king of Hamath, heard that David had defeated the whole army of Hadadezer, king of Zobah,

he sent his son Hadoram to King David to greet him and congratulate him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and defeated him, for Hadadezer had often fought against Tou. And Hadoram brought various articles of gold, silver, and bronze.

These also King David dedicated to the LORD, together with the silver and gold that he had brought from all the nations: from Edom, from Moab, from the Ammonites, from the Philistines, and from the Amalekites.

Abishai son of Zeruiah struck down eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.

Then he stationed garrisons in Edom, so that all Edom became subject to David. The LORD gave victory to David wherever he went to fight.

So David reigned over all Israel, and he administered justice and righteousness for all his people.

Joab son of Zeruiah was commander of the army; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was recorder;
16
Zadok son of Ahitub and Ahimelech son of Abiathar were priests; Shavsha was secretary;
17
Benaiah son of Jehoiada was commander of the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were chief officials at the king’s side.
