So, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, you also must arm yourselves with the same mind, — because whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin —,

so that the remaining time you live no longer for human desires, but for the will of God.

For you have already spent enough time doing the will of those who do not know God. You have lived in various passions, desires, drunkenness, reveling, drinking parties, and forbidden idol worship.

Because of this they are surprised that you do not join them in the same flood of immorality, and they speak evil of you.

But they will have to give account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

For this reason the gospel was preached also to the dead, so that they, like all people, might be judged in the flesh; but in the spirit they may live according to the will of God.

The end of all things is near. Therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded, so that you may pray.
