I exhort the elders among you, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed.

Shepherd the flock of God that is among you, not by compulsion, but willingly, according to the will of God; not for shameful gain, but with a ready mind.

Neither as lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.

And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you shall receive the unfading crown of glory.

Likewise, you younger ones, submit yourselves to the elders. Yes, all of you, be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility; for:
“God resists the proud,
but gives grace to the humble.”

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.

Casting all your care upon him, for he cares for you.

Be sober and watchful! Your adversary, the devil, walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are being accomplished in your brothers and sisters throughout the world.

And the God of all grace, who has called you in Christ to his eternal glory, after you have suffered a little while, will himself perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Through Silvanus, whom I consider a faithful brother, I have written briefly to you, exhorting and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it!
