After all this was finished, all the Israelites who were present went out to the cities of Judah and broke in pieces the sacred pillars, cut down the Asherim, and pulled down the high places and the altars throughout all Judah and Benjamin, and also in Ephraim and Manasseh, until they had destroyed them all. Then all the Israelites returned to their cities, each to his own possession.

Hezekiah appointed the divisions of the priests and the Levites, division by division, each according to his service as priest or as Levite, for the burnt offerings and for the peace offerings, to give thanks and to sing praises, and to minister at the gates of the camp of the LORD.

The king contributed from his own possessions for the burnt offerings: for the morning burnt offering and the evening burnt offering, and the burnt offerings for the Sabbaths and for the new moons and for the appointed feasts, all as it is written in the law of the LORD.

He commanded the people, that is, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to give the portion due to the priests and the Levites, so that they might devote themselves to the law of the LORD.

As soon as this command was spread abroad, the Israelites brought in abundance the firstfruits of grain, new wine, oil, honey, and all kinds of produce of the field. They also brought in abundance the tithe of everything.

The Israelites and the people of Judah who lived in the cities of Judah also brought the tithe of oxen and sheep, and the tithe of the holy things that had been consecrated to the LORD their God. They laid them in heaps.

They began making the heaps in the third month, and they finished in the seventh month.

Hezekiah and the leaders came and saw the heaps, and they blessed the LORD and his people Israel.

Hezekiah questioned the priests and the Levites about the heaps,

and Azariah, the chief priest of the house of Zadok, answered him, saying, “Since the offerings began to be brought into the house of the LORD, we have eaten and been satisfied, and there is still much left over. For the LORD has blessed his people, and this great amount is what remains.”

Then Hezekiah ordered rooms to be prepared in the house of the LORD, and they prepared them.

And faithfully they brought in the special offerings, the tithes, and the holy gifts there. Conaniah the Levite was in charge of them, and Shimei his brother was second,

and Jehiel, Azaziah, Nahat, Asael, Jerimoth, Jozabad, Eliel, Ismakiah, Mahath, and Benaiah were overseers under Conaniah and his brother Shimei, by the command of King Hezekiah and Azariah, the chief of the house of God.

And Kore the son of Imnah, a Levite, keeper of the east gate, was over the freewill offerings for God, to distribute the contributions set apart for the LORD and the most holy things.

And in the cities of the priests he was faithfully assisted by Eden, Miniamin, Jeshua, Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah in the distribution to their brothers according to their divisions, to the old and to the young,

except to every one who came into the house of the LORD, according to the appointed days, according to the duty of his office, and according to his division, namely those who were entered in the register as males three years old and upward.
17
The priests were entered in the register by their fathers’ houses, and the Levites from twenty years old and upward were entered according to their duties and their divisions.
18
The priests were registered with all their families, that is, wives, sons, and daughters, the whole company, because in faithfulness they had consecrated themselves to the holy offering.
19
For the descendants of Aaron, the priests, who lived in the pasturelands around their cities, in every city there were men appointed by name to distribute portions to every male among the priests and to every Levite who was entered in the register.

Thus Hezekiah did throughout all Judah. He did what was good, what was upright, and what was right before the LORD his God.

In every work that he began in the service of the house of God, and in the law and the commandment, he sought his God. He did it with all his heart, and so he prospered in all that he did.
