Then Hezekiah sent word to all Israel and Judah, and even wrote letters to Ephraim and Manasseh, that they should come to keep the Passover to the LORD, the God of Israel, at the house of the LORD in Jerusalem.

The king, together with the leaders and all the assembly in Jerusalem, had planned to keep the Passover in the second month,

because they could not keep it at the proper time, since the priests had not sanctified themselves in sufficient number, and the people had not yet gathered in Jerusalem.

The plan pleased the king and all the assembly.

So they decided to proclaim a decree throughout all Israel, from Beersheba to Dan, that everyone should come to Jerusalem to keep the Passover to the LORD, the God of Israel, because they had not kept it in great numbers as it was written.

So the swift messengers went throughout all Israel and Judah, carrying letters from the king and the leaders, and saying according to the king’s command: “O people of Israel, return to the LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, and He will return to those of you who remain, those who have escaped from the hand of the kings of Assyria.

Do not be like your fathers and your brothers, who were unfaithful to the LORD, the God of their fathers, so that He made them an object of horror, as you yourselves see.
8
Now do not be stiff-necked as your fathers were. Yield yourselves to the LORD and come to His sanctuary, which He has consecrated forever, and serve the LORD your God, so that His burning anger may turn away from you.
9
For if you return to the LORD, your brothers and your children will find compassion before those who took them captive, and they will return to this land. For the LORD your God is gracious and merciful; He will not turn His face away from you if you return to Him!”

As the swift messengers went from city to city through the land of Ephraim and Manasseh as far as Zebulun, they were laughed at and mocked.
11
Nevertheless, some from Asher, Manasseh, and Zebulun humbled themselves and came to Jerusalem.

Also in Judah the hand of God was seen, giving them one heart to do the command of the king and the leaders according to the word of the LORD.

So many people gathered in Jerusalem, a very great assembly, to keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread in the second month.
14
Then they arose and removed the altars that were in Jerusalem; and all the incense altars were taken away and thrown into the Kidron Valley.
15
Then the Passover lamb was slaughtered on the fourteenth day of the second month. And the priests and the Levites were ashamed, and they consecrated themselves and brought burnt offerings to the house of the LORD.
16
They stood in their places according to the ordinance appointed for them, according to the Law of Moses, the man of God; the priests sprinkled the blood they received from the Levites.
17
For many in the assembly had not consecrated themselves, so it was the duty of the Levites to slaughter the Passover lambs for everyone who could not consecrate them for the LORD because he was not clean.
18
For a great part of the people—especially from Ephraim, Manasseh, Issachar, and Zebulun—had not purified themselves. Yet they ate the Passover, though not in accordance with what was written. But Hezekiah prayed for them, saying: “The good LORD may make atonement for all

who truly desire to seek God, the LORD, the God of their fathers, even though they are not clean according to the sanctuary.”

The LORD heard Hezekiah and spared the people.
21
For seven days the Israelites who were in Jerusalem kept the Feast of Unleavened Bread with great joy, while the Levites and the priests sang praises to the LORD each day with all their strength.
22
Hezekiah spoke words of encouragement to all the Levites who showed good understanding in serving the LORD. So they ate the festival food for seven days, offering peace offerings and giving thanks to the LORD, the God of their fathers.
23
Then the whole assembly agreed to keep the feast for seven more days. So they kept the feast for seven more days with gladness.
24
For Hezekiah king of Judah had contributed to the assembly a thousand bulls and seven thousand sheep. And the leaders also contributed to the assembly a thousand bulls and ten thousand sheep. And most of the priests had consecrated themselves.
25
All the assembly of Judah rejoiced, as did the priests and the Levites, and all the assembly that came from Israel, as well as the foreigners, both those who came from the land of Israel and those who lived in Judah.

So there was great joy in Jerusalem, for since the days of Solomon son of David, king of Israel, nothing like this had happened in Jerusalem.
27
Then the Levitical priests arose and blessed the people. Their voice was heard by the LORD, and their prayer came to his holy dwelling in heaven.
