The words that were revealed to Amos, one of the shepherds from Tekoa,
concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah, king of Judah,
and in the days of Jeroboam, son of Joash, king of Israel,
two years before the earthquake.

He said:
“The LORD roars from Zion
and from Jerusalem he makes his voice heard;
the pastures of the shepherds dry up,
and the top of Mount Carmel withers.”

Thus says the LORD:
“For three transgressions of Damascus, even for four,
I will not turn back my decision:
because they have threshed Gilead
with iron threshing sledges,
4
I will send fire into the house of Hazael,
so that the strongholds of Ben-hadad shall be consumed;
5
I will break the bar of Damascus
and cut off the inhabitant from the Valley of Aven,
and the one who holds the scepter from Beth-eden;
and the people of Aram shall go into exile to Kir,”
says the LORD.

Thus says the LORD:
“For three transgressions of Gaza, even for four,
I will not turn back my decision:
because they carried away into exile
a whole people, to hand them over to Edom,
7
I will send fire into the wall of Gaza,
so that its strongholds shall be consumed;
8
I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod
and the one who holds the scepter from Ashkelon;
I will turn my hand against Ekron,
so that the remnant of the Philistines shall perish,”
says the Lord GOD.

Thus says the LORD:
“For three transgressions of Tyre, even for four,
I will not turn back my decision:
because they delivered up a whole people to Edom
and did not remember the covenant of brotherhood,
10
I will send fire into the wall of Tyre,
so that its strongholds shall be consumed.”

Thus says the LORD:
“For three transgressions of Edom, even for four,
I will not turn back my decision:
because he pursued his brother with the sword
and cast off all pity,
and kept his anger forever
and held on to his wrath continually,
12
I will send fire into Teman,
so that the strongholds of Bozrah shall be consumed.”
13
Thus says the LORD:
“For three transgressions of the Ammonites, even for four,
I will not turn back my decision:
because they ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead
in order to enlarge their own territory,
14
I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah,
so that its strongholds shall be consumed,
with shouting on the day of battle,
with a storm wind on the day of the whirlwind;
15
and their king shall go into exile,
he and his princes together,”
says the LORD.
