1. Body Temperature: God’s Amazing Design
The human body normally has a temperature of around 36–37°C. This temperature is not just any number too low and we get cold, too high and we can become ill.
God designed our bodies with automatic temperature-regulating mechanisms such as:
- Sweating when it is too hot.
- Shivering when it is too cold.
- Burning calories to produce heat.
Like a spiritual thermostat, God also wants us to remain in a healthy “temperature of faith” not too cold, but not lukewarm either.
2. Spiritual Warmth According to the Bible
Jesus once rebuked the church in Laodicea:
“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!” (Revelation 3:15)
This verse reminds us that lukewarm faith is not pleasing before God.
- Too cold = the heart moves away from God.
- Too hot with excess but without direction = zeal that is not guided by the Word.
- True warmth = having living love, faith, and hope.
3. Signs That Spiritual Warmth Is Starting to Decline
Like a body that is starting to run a fever or feel cold, there are spiritual signs we must watch for:
- Worship starts to feel like routine, not longing.
- Prayer becomes rare or only happens when we need something.
- God’s Word is rarely read, even though it used to be regular.
- The heart grows faint and finds it hard to give thanks.
If these signs appear, it means the “temperature of faith” is dropping and needs to be warmed again soon.
4. How to Keep Spiritual Warmth
God provides many “spiritual warmers” so that we do not lose our zeal:
- Read and meditate on God’s Word every day.
- Pray with an open heart to God, not merely as a formality.
- Join a spiritual community that strengthens one another.
- Serve others so that God’s love flows through us.
- Give thanks in all things as a confession that God is sovereign.
5. Both Body and Spirit Need Care
If our body is too cold for too long, hypothermia can happen.
If our faith is “cold” for too long, the heart can grow numb to God’s love.
Both need to be cared for every day, body through a healthy lifestyle, and spirit through a personal relationship with God.
Body warmth makes us physically comfortable.
Spiritual warmth makes us strong in facing life’s storms.
God desires us to remain warm before Him, ready to be used for His glory.
