For some people, science and faith seem like two different paths. Science speaks of evidence, data, and experiments. Faith speaks of trust, hope, and things not yet seen. But… is it possible for us to “sense” God through science?
Science Sees the Footprints, Not the Face
Science indeed cannot “prove” God the way it can prove the presence of water in a glass. However, it can observe the footprints that point to Him. Just as we do not see the wind, yet can feel its blowing, so we do not see God directly, yet we can find His signs:
- The order of the universe – Gravity, planetary orbits, and DNA all show precise design.
- Human consciousness – Science has not yet fully explained why we have a sense of morality, love, and purpose.
- The beauty and harmony of nature – Beauty is not a biological necessity, but a gift that awakens wonder.
The Bible Confirms This Observation
Romans 1:20 says, “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities… have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made.” In other words, creation is an “open laboratory” that reveals the glory of the Creator.
Psalm 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” Even before there were telescopes or microscopes, the Bible was already inviting people to see God through His works in nature.
A Sense of Wonder: The Meeting Point of Science and Faith
Many great scientists such as Isaac Newton or Francis Collins have admitted that the more they studied science, the more they were amazed by the Creator.
Science explains how something happens. Faith answers why it exists. And that sense of wonder often becomes a “bridge” that helps someone sense God’s presence.
Why Don’t All Scientists Believe?
Just like two people looking at a beautiful painting, one may say, “Wow, the painter must be amazing!” while the other says, “Maybe the paint just fell and formed this picture by itself.” It is not because the painting is unclear, but because the hearts that see it are different.
