Can We Train the Eyes of Faith?

Eye of Faith Sees the Unseen

In 2 Corinthians 5:7 it says, โ€œFor we live by faith, not by sight.โ€ This means faith has its own way of “seeing,” not with the retina, but with a heart that trusts in God’s truth.

The physical eye sees facts: illness, lack, rejection. But the eye of faith sees promises: healing, restoration, provision. The physical eye sees the sea in front and soldiers behind. But the eye of faith, like Moses, sees the path God can open (Exodus 14:21).

Faith Is Not Blind, But Trained

Faith does not mean blind and reckless. Rather, faith is built through a deep knowledge of who God is. Like a muscle that is trained, the eye of faith can also be strengthened.

How? By continually relying on God amid uncertain situations. When you choose to keep believing even though there is no way out yet, you are โ€œtrainingโ€ your eye not to focus only on what is visible.

The Word Is the Glasses of the Eye of Faith

Without the word, our vision is blurry. Romans 10:17 says, โ€œFaith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.โ€ The word is the โ€œspiritual glassesโ€ that help us see from God’s perspective, not the narrow human viewpoint.

Without these glasses, we can quickly despair. But with the eye of faith, we can see hope even in the midst of fog.

Train and Use It

The eye of faith is not innate, but the result of daily training. In small choices: remaining thankful when disappointed, continuing to hope when unanswered, continuing to walk even though the end is not yet seen.

And gradually, your eye of faith will become sharper in seeing God’s presence behind every season of life.
