"Every command that I give you today you must be careful to do faithfully, so that you may live and increase, and enter and possess the land that the LORD swore to your fathers.

Remember the whole journey that you have taken at the will of the LORD your God in the wilderness these forty years, in order to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.

So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna, which you did not know and which your fathers also did not know, to make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.

Your clothing did not wear out on you, and your feet did not swell during these forty years.

Know then in your heart that the LORD your God disciplines you as a man disciplines his son.
6
Therefore you must keep the commandments of the LORD your God, by walking in His ways and by fearing Him.
7
For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land, a land with streams, springs, and pools, flowing out of valleys and mountains;
8
a land of wheat and barley, of vines, fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of olive trees and honey;
9
a land where you will eat bread without scarcity, where you will lack nothing; a land whose stones contain iron, and from whose mountains you will dig copper.
10
And you shall eat and be satisfied, and you shall praise the LORD your God for the good land He has given you.
11
Take care, lest you forget the LORD your God by not keeping His commandments, His ordinances, and His statutes, which I command you today;
12
and lest, when you have eaten and are satisfied, and have built good houses and live in them,
13
and when your cattle and your flocks increase, and your silver and gold increase, and all that you have increases,
14
your heart be lifted up, and you forget the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery,
15
and who led you through that great and terrible wilderness, with its fierce serpents and scorpions, and its parched ground where there was no water. He who brought water for you out of the hard rock,
16
and in the wilderness he fed you with manna, which your fathers did not know, that he might humble you and test you, to do you good in the end.
17
Then do not say in your heart, ‘My power and the strength of my hand have gained me this wealth.’
18
But you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to gain wealth, that he may confirm his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
19
But if you shall forget the LORD your God altogether, and follow other gods, and serve them, and bow down to them, I testify to you this day that you shall surely perish;
20
as the nations which the LORD destroys before you, so you shall perish, because you would not listen to the voice of the LORD your God.”
