That very night the king could not sleep. So he ordered that the book of the records of the chronicles be brought, and it was read before the king.

And there it was found written concerning Mordecai, who had informed that Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs, who were among the keepers of the door, had sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus.

Then the king said, “What honor and dignity has been bestowed on Mordecai for this?” The king’s attendants who served him answered, “Nothing has been bestowed on him.”

So the king said, “Who is in the court?” Now Haman had just come into the outer court of the king’s palace to tell the king that he intended to impale Mordecai on the pole he had prepared for him.

And the king’s attendants said to him, “Haman is standing in the court.” Then the king said, “Let him come in.”

When Haman came in, the king asked him, “What should be done for the man whom the king delights to honor?” Haman said in his heart, “Whom would the king delight to honor more than me?”

Therefore Haman answered the king, “For the man whom the king delights to honor,
8
let royal apparel be brought, such as the king himself wears, and a horse on which the king himself rides, and on whose head a royal crown has been placed,
9
and let the apparel and the horse be given into the hand of one of the king’s noble officials, and let them clothe the man whom the king delights to honor, and let him be led on horseback through the city square, while they proclaim before him, ‘Thus shall it be done for the man whom the king delights to honor!’

Then the king said to Haman, “Quickly, take the apparel and the horse, as you have said, and do so to Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the king’s gate. Leave nothing undone of all that you have spoken.”

So Haman took the apparel and the horse, clothed Mordecai, and led him through the city square, proclaiming before him, “Thus shall it be done for the man whom the king delights to honor.”

Then Mordecai returned to the king’s gate, but Haman hurried home, mourning and with his head covered.

And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had happened to him. Then his wise men and Zeresh his wife said to him, “If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of Jewish descent, you will not be able to prevail against him, but will surely fall before him.”

While they were still talking with him, the king’s eunuchs came and hurried Haman to the banquet that Esther had prepared.
👑📚🪙 Summary of Esther 6 – When God Turns the Situation: Mordecai Is Honored, Haman Is Humiliated
Esther 6 is the climax of divine irony and God’s very dramatic intervention. On the night before Haman planned to hang Mordecai, the king could not sleep and had the royal chronicles read to him. It turned out that he discovered Mordecai had once saved him — and had never been honored! God powerfully turned the situation around, forcing Haman — Mordecai’s enemy — to publicly honor Mordecai instead.
📌 1. The King Could Not Sleep and Read the Records of History (verses 1–3)
➡️ On that very night Haman was planning punishment for Mordecai, the king could not sleep
➡️ He ordered the chronicles to be read and found that Mordecai had once exposed a plot to assassinate him
➡️ He asked: “Has Mordecai been given honor or reward for that service?”
➡️ The answer: Not yet!
🎯 When God begins to work, even forgotten things can become instruments of reversal.
📌 2. Haman Comes with an Evil Plan (verses 4–6)
➡️ Haman came early in the morning to ask that Mordecai be hanged
➡️ Before he could speak, the king first asked Haman:
“What should be done for the man whom the king desires to honor?”
➡️ Haman thought the king must be speaking about himself
➡️ So he suggested a magnificent honor — royal clothing, the king’s horse, and being led through the city by a high official
🎯 Proud people often dig their own pit of false honor.
📌 3. Mordecai Honored by Haman (verses 7–11)
➡️ The king ordered Haman to do all these things for Mordecai
➡️ Haman was forced to put on the robe, lead the horse, and proclaim:
“This is what is done for the man whom the king delights to honor!”
➡️ After that, Mordecai returned to the king’s gate as before, but Haman went home with a broken heart
🎯 In one day, God can turn the position of the oppressed into one of honor.
📌 4. A Foreboding of Haman’s Fall (verses 12–14)
➡️ Haman’s wife, Zeresh, and his advisers said:
“If Mordecai is a Jew, and you have begun to fall before him, you will not be able to prevail.”
➡️ While they were still speaking, the palace officials came to take Haman to Esther’s second banquet
🎯 The world may begin to see that evil plans will not prevail when God defends His people.

“Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”
