The king and Haman came to feast with Esther the queen.

On the second day, while they were drinking wine, the king again asked Esther, “What is your request, Queen Esther? It shall surely be granted. And what is your desire? Even to half the kingdom, it shall be fulfilled.”

Then Esther the queen answered, “O king, if I have found favor in your sight, and if it pleases the king, let my life be granted me at my request, and my people at my desire.

For we have been sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be killed, and to be annihilated. If we had only been sold as male and female slaves, I would have kept silent; but this calamity is beyond any loss that could come to the king.”

Then King Ahasuerus said to Esther the queen, “Who is he, and where is he, who has dared to do this?”

And Esther said, “The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman!” Then Haman was terrified before the king and the queen.

The king rose in his wrath from the wine feast and went out into the palace garden; but Haman remained to beg for his life from Esther the queen, for he saw that the king had determined to bring disaster upon him.

When the king returned from the palace garden to the room where they were drinking wine, Haman was falling upon the couch where Esther was reclining. Then the king said, “Will he even assault the queen in my own house?” As the word left the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face.

Then Harbona, one of the eunuchs who stood before the king, said, “Moreover, the gallows that Haman prepared for Mordecai, the man who saved the king by his report, stands near Haman’s house, fifty cubits high.” And the king said, “Hang him on it.”

So Haman was hanged on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king’s wrath subsided.

Esther 7 is the dramatic climax of the story of God’s deliverance. At the second banquet given by Esther, the queen finally reveals her identity as a Jew and exposes Haman’s evil plan.
