From dark blue cloth, light blue cloth, and scarlet cloth they made the service garments for use in the sanctuary; they also made the holy garments for Aaron, as the LORD had commanded Moses.

He made the ephod of gold, dark blue cloth, light blue cloth, scarlet cloth, and finely twisted linen.

They hammered out sheets of gold and cut it into threads, to work it into the dark blue cloth, the light blue cloth, the scarlet cloth, and the fine linen: the work of a skilled craftsman.

They made shoulder pieces for the ephod, joined to it; at its two ends it was joined together.

The woven band that was on the ephod was of the same workmanship and of the same material as the ephod itself: of gold, dark blue cloth, light blue cloth, scarlet cloth, and finely twisted linen, as the LORD had commanded Moses.

They worked the chrysoprase stones, set in gold filigree, and engraved on them the names of the sons of Israel, engraved like a seal.

He placed them on the two shoulder pieces of the ephod as memorial stones to remind the Israelites, as the LORD had commanded Moses.

He made the breastpiece, the work of a skilled craftsman. It was made like the ephod, of gold, dark blue cloth, light blue cloth, scarlet cloth, and finely twisted linen.

It was made square; they made the breastpiece doubled, a span long and a span wide.

They set it with four rows of stones: the first row was a ruby, a topaz, and a malachite;

the second row: a bloodstone, a sapphire, and a green jasper;

They made two gold settings and two gold rings, and put the two rings on the two ends of the breastpiece.

They attached the two braided gold chains to the two rings at the ends of the breastpiece.

The other two ends of the two braided chains they attached to the two gold settings, and so they were fastened to the shoulder pieces of the ephod on its front side.

They made two gold rings and put them on the two ends of the breastpiece, on its inner edge, facing the ephod.

They also made two gold rings and fastened them on the two shoulder pieces of the ephod, underneath, on the front side, close to the place where it was joined, above the woven band of the ephod.

Then they bound the breastpiece by its rings to the rings of the ephod with a dark blue cord, so that it remained above the woven band of the ephod, and the breastpiece could not be moved from the ephod — as the LORD had commanded Moses.

He made the robe of the ephod, woven work, entirely of dark blue cloth.

The opening of the robe in the middle was like the opening of a coat of mail; it had a binding around its opening, so that it would not tear.

They made pomegranates at the hem of the robe of dark blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, twisted together.

They made bells of pure gold and placed the bells between the pomegranates around the hem of the robe, alternating between the pomegranates,

so that a bell and a pomegranate alternated all around the hem of the robe, for use in the service, as the LORD had commanded Moses.

They made the tunics of fine linen, woven work, for Aaron and his sons,
28
the turban of fine linen, the beautiful headbands of fine linen, and the linen undergarments of finely twisted linen,
29
and the sash of finely twisted linen, dark blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, the work of an embroiderer — as the LORD had commanded Moses.

They made the plate, the holy diadem, of pure gold, and on it was written an inscription, engraved like a seal: Holy to the LORD.

They attached to the plate a dark blue cord to fasten it on the turban above — as the LORD had commanded Moses.

So all the work for the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, was completed. The Israelites had done everything just as the LORD had commanded Moses; so they did.

They brought the tabernacle to Moses, the tent and all its furnishings: its clasps, its boards, its crossbars, its pillars, and its bases,

the covering of ram skins dyed red, the covering of sea cow skins, the veil of the screen,
35
the ark of the testimony with its poles and the mercy seat,
36
the table, all its utensils, and the bread of the Presence,
37
a lamp of pure gold, its lamps — the lamps that were to be set in order upon it — and all its utensils, and the oil for the light,
38
the altar of gold, the anointing oil, the fragrant incense, and the curtain for the door of the tent,
39
the bronze altar with its bronze grating, its poles, and all its utensils, the basin with its stand,
40
the hangings of the court, its pillars and its bases, and the curtain for the gate of the court, its cords and its pegs, all the utensils for the service of setting up the Holy Tent, that is, the Tent of Meeting;

the garments of service worn when ministering in the holy place, the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons for serving as priests.

According to all that the LORD had commanded Moses, so the Israelites did all the work of completing it.
43
And Moses saw all the work, and indeed, they had done it just as the LORD had commanded; so they had done it. Then Moses blessed them.

Exodus 39 records the completion of the making of the holy garments for the priests, especially for Aaron as the High Priest, as well as the completion of all the furnishings of the Tabernacle. Everything was made according to the LORD’s command, and was brought to Moses for inspection.
1. Holy Garments for the Priest (verse 1)
- All were made from blue, purple, scarlet yarn, and fine linen, especially for Aaron and his sons.
- These holy garments were worn in service in the holy place, symbolizing holiness and glory.
2. The Ephod (verses 2–7)
- Made of gold, colored cloth, and linen, with two precious stones on the shoulders engraved with the names of the 12 tribes of Israel.
- This shows that the High Priest bore the people before God.
3. The Breastpiece (verses 8–21)
- Square, with four rows of precious stones, each engraved with the name of an Israelite tribe.
- Fastened securely to the ephod with gold cords.
- Shows that God’s people are always near to God’s heart.
4. Other Garments of the High Priest (verses 22–31)
- Blue robe with decorations of gold bells and pomegranates all around it.
- Turban (head covering) with a gold plate inscribed:
“Holy to the LORD”
- Garments for the other priests were also prepared.
- The purpose: for glory and beauty, and to show holiness in service.
5. The Work Completed According to Command (verses 32–43)
- All the work was completed exactly as the LORD had commanded Moses.
- Moses inspected all the work and blessed them.
- This reflects perfect obedience and Moses’ acknowledgment of the faithfulness of the people and the craftsmen.
