Then the word of the LORD came to me:

“Son of man, you dwell in the midst of a rebellious house, who have eyes to see, but do not see, and ears to hear, but do not hear; for they are a rebellious house.
3
Therefore, son of man, prepare for yourself baggage for exile, and go out by day in their sight as one going into exile; move from your place to another place in their sight. Perhaps they will understand that they are a rebellious house.
4
Bring out your baggage by day in their sight, as baggage for exile; and you yourself shall go out in the evening in their sight, as one who goes out to go into exile.

In their sight dig through the wall, and go out through it.
6
In their sight carry your baggage on your shoulder, and take it out in the dark; you shall cover your face, so that you do not see the ground; for I have made you a sign to the house of Israel.”

Then I did as I was commanded: I brought out by day baggage like the baggage of one going into exile, and in the evening I dug through the wall with my hand; in the dark I went out, and in their sight I carried my baggage on my shoulder.

In the morning the word of the LORD came to me:

“Son of man, has not the house of Israel, that rebellious house, asked you, ‘What are you doing?’
10
Say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: This oracle concerns the prince in Jerusalem and all the house of Israel who are there.’
11
Say, ‘I am a sign for you; as I have done, so it shall be done to them: as captives they shall go into exile.’
12
And the prince who is among them shall carry his baggage on his shoulder in the dark and shall go out; they shall dig through the wall to let him go out; he shall cover his face, so that he may not see the land.
13
I will spread My net over him, and he shall be caught in My snare; and I will bring him to Babylon, the land of the Chaldeans, yet he shall not see it, though he shall die there.
14
And all who are around him, his helpers and all his troops, I will scatter to every wind, and I will draw out the sword after them.”
15
Then they shall know that I am the LORD, when I scatter them among the nations and disperse them through the countries.
16
But I will leave a few of them from the sword, from famine, and from pestilence, so that they may declare all their abominations among the nations where they come; and they shall know that I am the LORD.”
17
Then the word of the LORD came to me:

“Son of man, eat your bread with trembling, and drink your water with quaking and with anxious heart,
19
and say to the people of this land, Thus says the Lord GOD concerning the inhabitants of Jerusalem in the land of Israel: They shall eat their bread with anxious heart and drink their water with dismay, so that their land may be laid waste, because of the violence of all who dwell in it.
20
The inhabited cities shall be laid in ruins, and the land shall be desolate; and you shall know that I am the LORD.”
21
Then the word of the LORD came to me:
22
“Son of man, what is this proverb that you have in the land of Israel, saying, ‘The days are prolonged, and every vision comes to nothing’?
23
Therefore say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: I will put an end to this proverb, and they shall no more use it in Israel. But say to them, The days are near, and every vision will be fulfilled.
24
For there shall no longer be any false vision or flattering divination within the house of Israel,
25
for I the LORD will speak, and the word that I speak will be performed; it will no longer be delayed. For in your days, O rebellious house, I will speak a word and will fulfill it, declares the Lord GOD.”
26
Then the word of the LORD came to me:
27
“Son of man, behold, the house of Israel says, ‘The vision that he sees is for many days from now, and he prophesies of times far off.’
28
Therefore say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: None of my words will be delayed any longer. The word that I speak will be performed, declares the Lord GOD.”
🎒🏃♂️👁️ Summary of Ezekiel 12 – Prophetic Action and Rejection of the Word of the Lord
Ezekiel 12 describes the prophet Ezekiel being commanded to perform a symbolic act, portraying the exile of the king and the people of Jerusalem. It is a direct warning that exile and destruction will truly come to pass. Yet the people remain stubborn and unbelieving, even mocking the prophecy as something that “will not happen soon.” God declares: “My word will be fulfilled without further delay.”
📌 1. Prophetic Action: Symbolic Exile (verses 1–7)
➡️ The Lord calls the people “a rebellious house” — their eyes are spiritually blind, their ears are closed.
