The word of the LORD came to me:

“Son of man, set your face against the mountains of Seir, and prophesy against it,
3
and say to it, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am against you, O mountains of Seir, and I will stretch out my hand against you and make you a desolation and a waste.
4
I will make your cities ruins, and you shall become a waste, and you shall know that I am the LORD.
5
Because you cherished an ancient enmity in your heart and gave the people of Israel over to the sword in the time of their calamity, at the time of their final judgment,
6
therefore, as I live, declares the Lord GOD, I will make you blood, and blood shall pursue you; because you are guilty of bloodshed, blood shall pursue you.
7
I will make Mount Seir a desolation and a waste, and I will cut off from it those who pass through and those who return.
8
I will fill its mountains with the slain. On your hills, in your valleys, and in all your ravines those slain by the sword shall fall.
9
I will make you a perpetual desolation, and your cities shall not be inhabited again. Then you shall know that I am the LORD.
10
Because you said, These two nations and these two lands shall be mine, and we will take possession of them — though the LORD was there —
11
therefore, as I live, declares the Lord GOD, I will deal with you according to the anger and jealousy with which you dealt with them, because of your hatred toward them; and I will make myself known among you when I judge you.
12
And you shall know that I, the LORD, have heard all the insults that you uttered against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid waste; they are given to us to devour.
13
And you magnified yourselves against me with your words and multiplied your speech against me; I heard it.
14
Thus says the Lord GOD: The whole earth will rejoice when I make you a desolation.
15
As you rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so I will do to you. You shall be desolate, O mountains of Seir, and all Edom, all of it. Then they shall know that I am the LORD.”

Ezekiel 35 is a specific prophecy against Mount Seir, that is, the territory of the nation of Edom, a distant relative of Israel. The Lord declares His judgment on Edom’s lasting hatred and deep-seated resentment toward the people of Israel, especially when Israel was in distress. Edom took advantage of Israel’s suffering to attack, seize land, and mock the people of God. But the Lord declares: “You shall be desolate and waste forever.”

➡️ The Lord commanded Ezekiel to prophesy directly against Mount Seir (Edom)
➡️ Because they had continual hostility toward Israel, the Lord would make their land a place of ruin
