Many people want to be used by God for great things. They want to serve in public, lead many people, and do things that look impressive. But the Bible shows that God pays attention to our faithfulness precisely in the things other people cannot see. In silence, in private spaces, in routines that may feel boring, that is where God tests and purifies our hearts.
Jesus said in Luke 16:10, “Whoever is faithful in very little is also faithful in much.” This is a principle of God’s kingdom: great things begin with faithfulness in small things, and faithfulness in small things is usually seen by no one except God.
For example, when you still get up early to pray even though no one knows. When you keep your integrity at work even though no one is watching. When you continue to love someone who does not return your love. All of these are forms of hidden faithfulness, yet they are very precious in God’s eyes.
David is one remarkable example. Before he became king of Israel, he was only an ordinary shepherd caring for sheep in the field. No audience, no applause. But that was where God shaped him. Even when he defeated Goliath, that victory was the result of faithfulness in private training against lions and bears when no one was watching (1 Samuel 17:34-37).
God is not impressed by outward appearance. In Matthew 6:4, Jesus said, “And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” In other words, God pays attention to what is hidden, to the motives of our hearts, to faithfulness that is not made public.
If right now you feel “unseen,” as if no one appreciates your efforts, do not give up. God sees. He records every tear, every right decision you make, and every prayer you lift up in the hidden place. Believe this: faithfulness in what cannot be seen is the foundation for greater trust.
Father, teach me to be faithful even when no one is watching. Let me live not to be seen by people, but to please Your heart. Shape me in the hidden place so that I am ready when You entrust me with great things. Amen.
