Many people feel unworthy to be used by God because they think they do not have a special talent. They cannot preach, are not good at playing music, are not eloquent, are not creative, and feel they are not “as great” as others in ministry. But let us pause for a moment and remember one important truth: God is not looking for the most talented person, but for someone whose heart is truly for Him.
1 Samuel 16:7 says, “People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” This was spoken by God when Samuel was about to anoint a king over Israel and almost chose wrongly based on outward appearance. But God chose David, a young shepherd, unremarkable, even overlooked by his own family. Why? Because his heart was pleasing to God.
Talent is good, but that is not what matters most to God. More important than ability is willingness. God can equip anyone who is willing to obey. Moses also felt he was not eloquent, but God still called him and used him in a mighty way (Exodus 4:10-12). God is not looking for a great speaker, but for someone willing to deliver His message.
In God’s hands, the simple can become extraordinary. Five loaves and two fish may seem like too little, but when fully surrendered to Jesus, it was enough to feed thousands of people (John 6:9-13). What God seeks is a heart that says, “This is what I have, Lord. Use it according to Your will.”
Sometimes we focus too much on what we do not have, and forget that a sincere longing of the heart is more valuable than a thousand abilities without love. In 2 Chronicles 16:9 it is written, “For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.”
If you feel you have nothing to offer, remember that what God wants is your heart. Your sincerity, your willingness, and your desire to obey are what please Him. Lord, I may not have much, but I surrender my heart completely to You. Use me according to Your will. Let my life please Your heart. Amen.
