When I would heal Israel,
then the guilt of Ephraim is laid bare
and the wicked deeds of Samaria:
for they practice deceit;
a thief breaks in,
a band of robbers plunders outside.

And it does not come to their mind
that I remember all their wickedness.
Now their own deeds surround them;
they are all before My face.

They make the king glad with their wickedness,
and the princes with their lies.

They are all adulterers,
like an oven heated by the baker,
who ceases to stir the fire
while he kneads the dough until it is leavened.

On the day of our king they made the princes sick
with the heat of wine;
he joined himself with mockers.

Their inward part is like an oven;
their hearts burn within them.
All night their anger smolders;
in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire.

They are all hot as an oven,
and they consume their judges.
All their kings have fallen;
there is none among them who calls on Me.

Ephraim mixes himself among the peoples;
Ephraim has become a cake not turned.

Foreigners devour his strength,
but he does not know it;
yes, gray hairs are sprinkled on him,
but he does not know it.

The pride of Israel testifies against him,
yet they do not return to the LORD their God,
nor seek Him for all this.

Ephraim has become a foolish dove, without sense,
calling to Egypt, going to Assyria.

As they go, I will spread My net over them;
I will bring them down like birds of the air;
I will chastise them for their wicked deeds.

Woe to them, for they have fled from Me!
Destruction to them, for they have rebelled against Me!
Though I would redeem them,
yet they speak lies against Me.

They do not cry to Me from their heart,
but they wail upon their beds.
For grain and new wine they cut themselves,
and they rebel against Me.

Though I trained and strengthened their arms,
yet they devise evil against Me.

They turn back, but not upward;
they are like a deceitful bow.
Their princes shall fall by the sword
because of the insolence of their tongue.
