Go, swift messengers,
to a nation tall and smooth-skinned,
to a people feared near and far,

whose land is divided by rivers!

All you inhabitants of the world,
you who dwell on the earth!
When a banner is raised on the mountains, look;
when the trumpet is blown, listen!

For thus the LORD said to me:
“I will look on from my dwelling place, quietly,
like shimmering heat in the sunshine,
like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.”

For before the harvest, when the blossom is over
and the flower becomes a ripening grape,
he will cut off the shoots with pruning knives,
and remove and take away the spreading branches.

They will all be left together
for the birds of prey on the mountains,
and for the beasts of the earth.
In summer the birds of prey will dwell there,
and all the beasts of the earth in winter.

At that time a gift will be brought to the LORD of hosts
from a people tall and smooth-skinned,
and from a people feared near and far,
a nation mighty and oppressive,
