The divine oracle concerning Egypt.
See, the LORD rides on a swift cloud
and comes to Egypt;
and the idols of Egypt tremble before Him,
and the heart of the Egyptians melts within them.
2
I will stir up Egyptians against Egyptians,
so that they will fight, each against his brother,
and each against his neighbor,
city against city,
kingdom against kingdom;
3
the spirit of the Egyptians will be emptied out,
and I will confound their plans;
then they will seek guidance from the idols and from the sorcerers,
from the spirits of the dead and from the familiar spirits.
4
I will hand the Egyptians over
into the hand of a cruel master,
and a fierce king will rule over them;
declares the Lord, the LORD of hosts.
5
The waters of the Nile will be dried up,
and the river will become parched and dry,
6
so that the canals will stink,
and the branches of the Nile will become shallow and parched;
the reeds and rushes will wither away.
7
The grass by the Nile
and all the sown fields by the Nile
will be dried up by the wind and will be no more.
8
The fishermen will lament and mourn,
all who cast a hook in the Nile;
and all who spread nets there
will also languish.
9
Those who work in flax will be ashamed,
as will the weavers of white cloth.
10
The weavers will be crushed in spirit,
and all the hired workers will be sad at heart.
11
The princes of Zoan are utter fools;
the wisest counselors of Pharaoh
give foolish advice.
How can you say to Pharaoh,
“I am a son of the wise,
a son of ancient kings”?
12
Where then are your wise men?
Let them announce to you and make known
what the LORD of hosts has purposed concerning Egypt.
13
The princes of Zoan have acted foolishly,
the princes of Memphis are deceived;
the chiefs of her tribes
have led Egypt astray.
14
The LORD has poured out among them
a spirit of confusion,
and they have led Egypt astray in all its work,
like a drunken man staggering in his vomit.
15
And there will be no work for Egypt that can succeed,
that which is done by head or tail,
by palm branch or reed.
16
In that day the Egyptians will be like women;
they will tremble and be afraid before the hand of the LORD of hosts, which He is shaking over them.
17
And the land of Judah will become a terror to the Egyptians; whoever mentions it will be terrified,
because of the purpose of the LORD of hosts that He has determined against them.
18
At that time there will be five cities in the land of Egypt
that speak the language of Canaan and swear by the LORD of hosts.
One of them will be called Ir-Heres.
19
At that time there will be an altar to the LORD
in the midst of the land of Egypt,
and a pillar to the LORD at its border.
20
It will be a sign and witness to the LORD of hosts in the land of Egypt:
when they cry to the LORD because of oppressors,
then he will send them a savior,
who will contend for them and deliver them.
21
The LORD will make himself known to the Egyptians,
and the Egyptians will know the LORD in that day;
they will worship with sacrifice and grain offering,
and they will make vows to the LORD and perform them.
22
The LORD will strike Egypt,
striking and healing;
and they will return to the LORD,
and he will answer their prayer and heal them.
23
At that time there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria,
so that the Assyrian may come into Egypt
and the Egyptian into Assyria,
and Egypt will worship together with Assyria.
24
At that time Israel will be the third
with Egypt and with Assyria,
a blessing in the midst of the earth,
25
whom the LORD of hosts has blessed, saying:
“Blessed be Egypt, my people, and Assyria, the work of my hands,
and Israel, my inheritance.”

Isaiah 19 is a two-sided prophecy about Egypt: it begins with severe judgment from God on Egypt’s pride and idols, then ends with an astonishing promise of restoration, where Egypt will worship the LORD together with Israel and Assyria. 📌 1. The LORD Rides on a Cloud to Judge (verses 1–4)
“The LORD comes riding on a swift cloud and enters Egypt… the gods of Egypt tremble before him.”
- The picture of God as a heavenly warrior invading Egypt — the idols of Egypt fall
- Chaos follows: civil strife, foolish leaders, and the people under pressure
🎯 When God is present, every form of false trust collapses.
📌 2. Economic and Natural Collapse (verses 5–10)
“The waters from the sea will be gone, and the river will be dry and parched…”
- The Nile, Egypt’s symbol of prosperity, will dry up
- Fishing, agriculture, and the textile industry are also destroyed — a total collapse
- All this shows that material blessing cannot be separated from the presence of God
🎯 If God withdraws His hand, even the oldest civilization can fall.
📌 3. The Folly of the Leaders (verses 11–15)
“The princes of Zoan have become foolish…”
- The counselors and magicians of Egypt, once wise, are now regarded as foolish
- God pours out a spirit of confusion, and this great nation stumbles like a drunken man
🎯 Worldly wisdom cannot save when God has already rebuked.
📌 4. Egypt’s Repentance and Worship (verses 16–22)
“In that day the Egyptians will be like women: trembling because of the LORD of hosts…”
- Egypt will finally fear the LORD, and will even build an altar to Him!
- The LORD will strike, but also heal them
“The LORD will strike Egypt… then they will turn to the LORD, and He will restore them.”
🎯 Even a hostile nation can be restored if it repents!
📌 5. A Global Prophecy: Israel, Assyria, and Egypt United (verses 23–25)
“In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria… Israel will be the third with Egypt and Assyria…”
- Three great enemies of the past — Israel, Egypt, and Assyria — will be united in worship of the LORD
“Blessed be Egypt My people, Assyria the work of My hands, and Israel My inheritance.”
🎯 The LORD longs for global reconciliation, not only vengeance.

- The Lord can destroy idols and any structure that stands against Him
- Natural and economic blessings depend on humanity’s relationship with God
- Even a nation that was once an enemy can become a worshiper of God
- The end of all judgment is restoration, if the heart is willing to return

The Egyptians and the regions of Assyria (Media, Elam, etc.) were among those who heard the gospel on the day of Pentecost.
