At that time the Lord will bring judgment
with his hard, great, and strong sword
against Leviathan, the fleeing serpent,
against Leviathan, the twisting serpent,
and he will slay the dragon that is in the sea.

At that time it will be said:
“Sing about the lovely vineyard!

I, the Lord, am its keeper;
every moment I water it.
Lest anyone harm it,
I guard it day and night;

wrath is not in me.
If thorns and briers were set before me,
I would march against them in battle,
and I would burn them all together,

unless they seek refuge in me
and seek peace with me, yes, seek peace with me!”

In days to come Jacob will take root,
Israel will blossom and bud
and fill the face of the earth with fruit.

Has the Lord struck his people
as he struck those who struck them?
Or has he slain his people
as he slew those who slew them?

By driving them out and by sending them away you contended with them.
He removed them with his fierce wind in the day of the east wind.
9
Therefore by this the guilt of Jacob will be removed,
and this will be the fruit when he takes away his sin:
when he makes all the stones of the altar
like crushed chalk stones,
so that no Asherah poles or incense altars
remain standing.

For the fortified city is solitary,
a deserted and forsaken dwelling,
like the wilderness;
there the calf will graze,
and there it will lie down,
consuming its branches.

When its boughs are dry, they will be broken off;
women will come and set them on fire.
For this is a people without understanding;
therefore he who made them will not have compassion on them,
and he who formed them will show them no favor.

And it will come to pass in that day that the Lord will thresh
from the channel of the Euphrates to the brook of Egypt,
and you will be gathered one by one, O people of Israel!

And it will come to pass in that day that a great trumpet will be blown,
and those who were lost in the land of Assyria
and those who were driven out to the land of Egypt
will come and worship the Lord
on the holy mountain, in Jerusalem.

- The Lord will utterly destroy those evil powers.

- The city that was once full of strength now becomes desolate — because without spiritual understanding, the people cannot endure.

“The LORD will thresh the nations one by one…”
- A picture of spiritual harvest: the Lord will gather his people one by one from every corner of the earth.
